Obituary

Bill Baumann, age 95 of Bottineau formerly of Westhope, left this world peacefully with family around him on Thursday, August 31, 2023 at a Bottineau nursing home. He had been asking God to come and get him for a while. He wanted to be with his Lord and to be reunited with his daughter, Pam.

William L. Baumann, was born in Westhope and lived there most of his life until 2012. He got an offer (too good to pass up) to sell their family home of over 50 years. They moved to Bottineau and got a darling apartment.

Bill thought he might like to be a priest and went to St. Johns for a year. God had other plans for him. He then went to Wahpeton got 2 years and worked for the soil conservation. Bill was quite the entrepreneur in his day. He saw that they were building a swimming pool in Westhope, so he built the Red Rooster, like a Dairy Queen Brazier. The laundromat was needing to be bought and refurbished. Bill bought that and fixed all the machines. He saw a need for building a trailer court in Westhope for the families working in the oil fields.

Bill decided to drive all the way to Dunseith to attend a dance. It was there that he met the love of his life, Colleen (Cool) Wohlfeil. They were married June 11, 1953, the hottest day in June. They had 3 daughters in 3 years. Bette came in 1954, Judy in 1955, and Pam in 1956. They were a busy couple!!

Bill is survived by his loving wife, Cool. He is also survived by his daughters, Judy Baumann, Good Sam Nursing Home, Bottineau. He is also survived by his daughter, Bette (Gene) Nelson, Morton, Illinois. Bill and Cool lost their daughter, Pam to ALS, but her husband, Dave is still a vital part of his family. Bill is also Grandpa to 6, and Great Grandpa to 12. He loved each of them so much and loved spending time with them.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Alice Baumann; brothers: Al (Bid) Baumann, Win (Mabel), Frank (Ethel), and Bob (Ruth). His sister preceded him in death, Lois (Dede) Ward. He was also preceded in death by two very special nephews: Larry (Bobby) Baumann and Bruce (Myrna) Baumann.
