Wesley DeCoteau, age 61 of Dunseith, passed away on Sunday, October 31, 2021 at a Fargo hospital. His Funeral will be held on Friday, November 5, 2021 at 2:00 pm at the Eagle Heart Cultural Center in Dunseith. His wake will be on Thursday starting at 4:00 pm at the Eagle Heart Cultural Center in Dunseith.
Wesley Henry DeCoteau was born July 18, 1960, a son and the third youngest child of Benjamin and Priscilla Rose (St. Claire) DeCoteau in Belcourt, North Dakota. He attended school at Wahpeton Indian School and Dunseith Public High School. He met and married Colleen Thomas, from this union a son was born, Wesley DeCoteau II. They later divorced. Wesley also had a daughter, Samantha. He then met his longtime girlfriend, Ronette Morin, who was there until his passing.
Wesley was self-employed as a carpenter, but he was known as a jack of all trades, which included, carpentry, plumbing, electrical work, auto mechanics, to name a few. He was always ready and willing to help anyone who needed help with building or remodeling projects. Wesley served as a member of the North Dakota Army National Guard.
Wesley loved spending time with his family and friends doing whatever they needed to get done or just enjoying each other's company. He will be dearly missed by all that knew him.
Wes is survived by his children, Wesley, of Texas and Samantha, Dunseith; 5 grandchildren, 7 brothers, Gary DeCoteau, Minneapolis, MN, Earl DeCoteau, Flandreau, SD, Kenny (Patty) DeCoteau, Raphael (Carla) DeCoteau, LeRoy (Wendy Beston) DeCoteau, Gene (Kim) DeCoteau, Dunseith, Terry (Myrna) DeCoteau, all of Dunseith; 5 sisters - Betty Swain, Shirley Belgarde, Lolly Lindquist, Dean DeCoteau and Esther DeCoteau, all of Dunseith; girlfriend, Ronette Morin, Dunseith; many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Wes was preceded in death by his parents, Benjamin & Rose DeCoteau, a brother, Leslie DeCoteau, sister, Ella 'Susie' Davis, grandparents, 5 nieces and 2 nephews, sister-in-law, Kim DeCoteau, and five brothers-in-law.
