Wayne Jeanotte, age 74 of Belcourt, passed away on Saturday, July 25, 2026 at a Belcourt hospital. Mass of the Christian burial will be held on Friday, July 31, 2026 at 10:00 am at the St. Anthony’s Catholic Church near Dunseith. His wake will be on Thursday starting at 4:00 pm at the church. Burial will be at the St. Ann’s Catholic Cemetery in Belcourt.

Wayne Lawrence Jeannotte was born to Eleanor (Parisien) Jeannotte and Alexander Jeannotte in Belcourt N.D. on February 7th 1952. Wayne passed away at IHS hospital in Belcourt on July the 25th of 2026. In Wayne’s younger years he attended Belcourt school until the fourth grade then attended St. Ann’s Catholic School until the ninth grade then returned to Belcourt school. In 1974 at the age of 21 he attended United Tribes Technical School for welding. After one year there he went on to move to Dallas TX. with his cousin George Jeanotte. He returned home in ‘75 where he met Sharon A. Parisien and started their family.

In 1976 Wayne and Sharon welcomed their oldest daughter Melanie Jeannotte and moved to Sidney NE for a short while. The following year they had their son Wayne Jeannotte jr. And moved to Aberdeen SD. where Wayne worked at the Federal building as a postal worker. They returned to the Turtle Mountains in the spring of 1980 where their third child was born Melissa Jeannotte, with their youngest daughter Faith Jeannotte being born in 1986. They raised their children in the Belcourt area where he worked odd jobs around ND including the construction of the I29 interstate, farm work, Wayne also worked as a security guard at the Skydancer Casino for ten years.

Wayne enjoyed family time with his children and grandchildren and Holiday gatherings with his loved ones around. Also, visiting with his brothers, catching up with old friends and sitting at the lake listening to music. He had a tremendous love for music of all genres, from soul to 70’s rock to modern country. He was a naturally talented artist, an avid reader, and a deeply intellectual intelligent man.

He was very knowledgeable and passionate on Native American rights and history as he would spend hours watching Native American Documentaries and sharing stories of time he spent in the 70’s with prominent AIM members such as Floyd Red Crow Westerman. Being an altruistic activist Wayne also traveled to South Dakota with a group of friends in support of the Wounded Knee Occupation of 1973, but was denied entry by a national guard blockade.

Wayne is preceded in death by his parents Eleanor (Parisien) Jeannotte and Alec Jeannotte; his brother Orlin P. Jeanotte.; Life long friend, Sharon A. Parisien and his only son, Wayne L. Jeannotte Jr.

Wayne is survived by his daughters Michelle, Melanie, Melissa and Faith.

Grandchildren, Justin, Jordan, Giovonni, Avery, Asia, Marissa, Micheal, Shane Jr., Danissa, Liam, Wilfred Jr. Tatum, Waylon, Weston, Daniel Jr., Laney, Walker, and Jett.

And many great grandchildren.
