Obituary

W allace Akerlind, age 98 of Souris, died Saturday at a Mohall nursing home.  His funeral will be held on Friday at 2:00 pm at the Lesje Lutheran Church near Souris.  Visitation will be Thursday from 1:00 pm until 9:00 pm with a prayer service at 7:00 pm at the Nero Funeral Home in Bottineau.
Wallace Oscar Akerlind, a son of Albert and Ellen (Axelson), was born on May 9, 1920 at Landa.  He grew up on the family farm north of Landa.  On October 22, 1942, he enlisted into the Army Air Force.  He served as a radio operator and mechanic during WWII.  He received  his honorable discharge on April 4, 1946 and he returned to the farm near Landa.  On November 23, 1947, he married Bernice Boreson.  They made their home on the Akerlind Family Farm.  Wallace farmed until he was 90 years old.  Bernice passed away on December 12, 2012.  He moved into the Edgewood Vista in Minot on November 20, 2015 and on April 27, 2017, he moved into the Mohall Nursing home.
He was baptized and confirmed at the Landa Methodist Church and later became a member of the Lesje Lutheran Church where on the 110 th Anniversary of the church he rang the bell 110 times.  He was a lifetime member of the Westhope VFW where he served as commander.  In 2009 he was a member of the Roughrider Honor Flight to Washington, D.C.  He was always there to help out his neighbors.  He enjoyed going to basketball games and watching his granddaughter cheerlead.
Wallace passed away on Saturday, June 16, 2018 at a Mohall nursing home.
He is survived by his daughter, Carol (Art) Lund of Bottineau; granddaughters, Amber (Grant) Coauette of Bemidji and Heidi (Barett) Eng of Larimore;  great-grandchildren, Anders Wallace Coauette, Iris Leigh Coauette, Haley Jo Eng and Kylie Lynn Eng.
In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Bradley; brothers, Axel and Melvin and sister, Elsie Borgen.
Arrangements were with Nero Funeral Home in Bottineau.  Friends may sign the online register book at www.nerofuneralhome.net.
