Vernon "Chuck" Gladue, age 79 of Dunseith, passed away on Monday, March 17, 2025 at a Dunseith nursing home. His funeral will be held on Friday, March 21, 205 at 2:00 pm at the Eagle Heart Cultural Center in Dunseith. Visitation will begin at 1:00 pm at the center.
Vernon Gladue, son of Paul and Cecilia (Dumont) Gladue, was born on November 30, 1945 in Fargo. He was raised near Dunseith and attended school in Belcourt. He was married to Ruth LaFountain and this marriage later ended. He began his career as an Ironworker. He joined the Iron Workers Local Union #793. He worked on the Missile sites for many years. On April 23, 1975, he married Janice Mountain in Minot. They made their home in Mandan and Chuck worked at the power plants in North Dakota. They moved to Dunseith in the early 1980's and Chuck continued doing iron work in North Dakota, Minnesota, Michigan and Wisconsin. He retired from iron working in 1998 due to an occupational injury. He later worked at Turtle Mountain Manufacturing as a machinist until it closed.
Chuck shared his knowledge of life teaching how to weld, play guitar and hunt. He also enjoyed singing, fishing, hunting, making homemade wine, building and remodeling. One of his most important life lessons to his family, was that time was invaluable. T
He is survived by his wife, Janice of Dunseith; daughters, Donna Jay (Lance) of St. John and Lorie Thomas (Craig) of Schererville, IN; sons, Vincent Gladue (Lenore) of Fargo; 20 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; brother, Andrew Gladue, nieces, nephews and many close cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents; children, Brian Olafson, Leah Gladue, James Gladue; infant son, Vernon; sister, Marla Fox and half-brother, Mick Jollie.
Arrangements were with Nero Funeral Home in Bottineau. Friends may sign the online register book at www.nerofuneralhome.net.
