Obituary

Verdine Jelleberg, age 92 of Bottineau, passed away on Tuesday, September 7, 2021 at a Mohall nursing home. Her funeral will be held on Friday, September 10, 2021 at 1:00 pm at the First Lutheran Church in Bottineau.  Visitation will be one hour prior to service time at the church.  Burial will be at the Sunset Memorial Gardens in Minot.

Edith Verdine Jelleberg, a daughter of Sofus and Selma (Feland) Thompson, was born on April 19, 1929 on the family farm near Antler.  She attended Sherman School and graduated from Antler High School in 1947.  She then attended the Trinity Hospital School of Nursing in Minot and graduated in 1950.  On October 8, 1950 she married Herbert Newman.  They made their home in Minot.  Verdine was a homemaker until Herbert's unexpected death on November 12, 1971.  She then worked at Trinity Hospital for a time before becoming a clinical nurse for Dr. Cameron, Dr. Flickinger and Dr. Shipley.  On June 14, 1980, she married Ernest Jelleberg.  They made their home in Bottineau.  They spent years enjoying camping and fishing trips, motorcycling and being with family and friends. They golfed, loved to explore and dance.  Ernie passed away on April 28, 2016.

She is survived by her children, Delwyn (Linda) Newman, Lemmon, S.D.; Wanda Thymian (Curt Schall)  Minot, N.D.; Marlin (Barb) Newman, Bottineau; and Wendy (Mark) Peterson, Fargo, N.D. In this family there are six grandchildren, Eric and Ryan Newman, Dina Holleron, Natalie Gregory, and Brianna and Amber Peterson and  12 great grandchildren; 1 great-great grandson; sisters, Sylvia (Virgil) Christenson of Carson City, NV, Arlys (Gary) Mathis of Gonvick, MN and Twylah Larson of Fargo;  Ernie's family; children, Janice A. Larson (Pete), Rollag, MN.; Patricia F. Knudson (Dr. James), Wappingers Falls, NY, Alice Jane Watland (George), Olympia, WA, and Dennis Jelleberg (Cheryl), Beulah, ND; Ernie's 9  grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Margot Jelleberg; Sadie Jelleberg, Audrey Newman and Donna Thompson; brother-in-law, Richard Pederson and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husbands and parents, she was preceded in death by her son-in-law, siblings, nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, Verdine requested that memorials should be given to an organization of the donors choosing.
