Tyson R. Floberg, of Minot, formerly of Westhope, died November 13, 2018, at his home, after a heroic and hard-fought battle with Glioblastoma (Brain Cancer), with his parents by his side.
Tyson was born October 4, 1983 in Minot to Brenda Floberg and Paul Genre. He graduated from Westhope High School in 2003 and attended NDSU-Bottineau, before moving to Minot, where he has since resided. Tyson was employed by Menards for 11 1/2 years, and worked as Assistant Manager of the Hardware Department for several years, then became and worked as Assistant Manager of the Electrical Department until his cancer diagnosis in August 2017.
This was not Tyson's first battle with cancer and anyone who knew him believed he was up for the fight! After all, he had successfully battled the leukemia starting at age 3, and thought the battle had been won. He was admired by all who loved him for his quiet strength, determination, and attitude during his final battle, when rarely if ever, did he complain despite his pain.
Tyson loved his job at Menards and the people he worked with. Regular customers often specifically sought him out in the store for assistance. He was a loyal and caring friend and family member and a dedicated, hardworking employee. He loved to fish and to celebrate the holidays "with all the trimmings." Long well known for his over-the-top outdoor Christmas lighting and decor at his mother's home in Westhope each holiday season, Tyson looked forward to adding new things each year. A devoted Dallas Cowboys and Bison fan his whole life, Tyson enjoyed watching and listening to the games to the end.
When asked about the highlights of his life/what he most enjoyed was fishing, being out on the open water, golfing, yardwork, and being a part of putting on the annual 4th of July Fireworks Show in Westhope.
Tyson and his family were so grateful to family, friends, co-workers, high school classmates, customers and complete strangers who supported and prayed for him, and appreciated the cards, donations, visits and food brought by his home during his final battle with brain cancer. He was especially touched by the outpouring of financial and emotional support during a benefit held in Westhope.
Tyson will be deeply missed by his devoted parents—mother, Brenda Floberg of Westhope; father, Paul (Melissa) Genre of Lake Jackson, Texas; half-siblings Meagan Genre; Zach Genre and many relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Arlan and Darlene Floberg of Westhope; his paternal grandparents Donald and Marlys Genre of Towner.
A memorial service will be held on November 20th, 2018; at the Presbyterian Church in Westhope, ND at 2pm. Visitation will be Monday from 4:00 pm until 7:00 pm at the Nero Funeral Home in Westhope. Arrangements by Nero Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Westhope Cemetery following the service.
