Theresa Poitra, age 84 of Dunseith, passed away on Friday, November 19, 2021 at a Belcourt hospital.  Her funeral will be on Wednesday at 10:00 A.M. on November 24, 2021 at the St. Michael's Catholic Church in Dunseith.  Her wake will be on Tuesday starting at 4:00 pm at the Church.  Burial will be at the St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery near Dunseith.

Theresa was born on November 13, 1937 to Emil & Genevieve (Delorme) Morin in Belcourt, ND. She was an enrolled member of the Turtle Mountain Band of Chippewa. She attended Elementary school at St. Joe's School in Chamberlain, SD. She attended High School in Marty, SD and graduated at the Belcourt High School. She then continued her education at the North Dakota State College of Science in Wahpeton, ND. She was one of the first people to become an LPN in North Dakota.

On April 26, 1958, She married William Sylvester Poitra at St. Mary's Church in Dunseith ND. They had 5 children and lived in numerous areas until they decided it was time to settle and raise their family in Dunseith, She worked numerous jobs, a nurse, a teachers aid, janitorial, hospitality, she finally was able to retire working as a host at the Sky Dancer Casino.

Theresa absolutely loved each and everyone of her grandchildren, she loved when one of them would stop in and visit her or even just gave her a call on the phone. She loved teaching them silly jokes and teaching them "French" words. She loved her TV time. She was very loyal to Pat Sajak (Wheel of Fortune), she never missed an episode. She would get so mad if you blurted out the answer before she did. She made sure to be home by 6pm, it didn't matter where she was at. She really enjoyed driving around whether it was her car or a borrowed one. She always made sure she had a vehicle. She always had to make her daily trip to town. She had to have her snacks. She enjoyed going to firework shows. She loved going for a ride to look at the Christmas Lights this time of the year. She enjoyed her word find puzzles and loved to read books.

She wrote everything down on paper, every birthday to every kid, grandkid, great grandkid. She would make sure to call each and everyone of them the day/night before. She had every phone number updated to make sure. We will miss those daily calls, hearing her sweet voice. She loved her family whole-heartedly and loved it if she could have everyone together for family gatherings.

Theresa was preceded in death by her husband William Sylvester Poitra, Her parents Emil & Genevieve Morin. Her Brother Sonny Morin, sisters Bernice Poitra & Janice Morin. Her Grandson, Adam Peltier and 2 Great- Grandchildren Chayson Decoteau and Marlin Poitra.

She is survived by her 5 children, Dean (Jen) Poitra of Dunseith, Kimberly (Andrew) Gladue of Dunseith, Renee (Gaillord) Petier of Dunseith, Melissa Poitra of Dunseith and Daniel (Lynell Pays) Poitra of Belcourt; 17 grandchildren; 36 great grandchildren; Godchildren, Karen Poitra and Angie Gillis and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
