Shirley Romfo, age 77 of Souris, passed away on Monday, October 25, 2021 at a Mohall nursing home. Her funeral will be held on Saturday, October 30, 2021 at 10:00 am at the Nero Funeral Home in Bottineau. Visitation will be Friday from 1:00 pm until 7:00 pm at the Nero Funeral Home in Bottineau. Burial will be at the Oak Creek Cemetery in Bottineau. Lunch will follow the burial at the first Lutheran Church in Bottineau.
Shirley Romfo, the sixth daughter of eight was born on March 8, 1944 to Andrew and Evelyn Andel in Breckenridge, MN. She was raised and educated in Breckenridge and in 1964, she entered the nursing program at NDSSS in Wahpeton. She graduated in 1965 as a LPN and worked on the surgical floor at the Dakota Hospital in Fargo. On June 11, 1966, she married Roger Romfo at the Breckenridge Lutheran Church. They moved to Bottineau and Shirley worked in at St. Andrew's Hospital in the OB Unit until she lost her first child in 1969. She then transferred to the clinic until Chris was born in 1970. Five years later, Nancy was born. In 1977, they moved to Redmond, WA and in 1979 they moved to Souris. On December 1, 1981, Shirley went to work at the Westhope Home and worked there until it closed in 2010. Roger passed away in 2015.
Shirley passed away on Monday, October 25, 2021 at a Mohall nursing home.
She is survived by her son, Chris and his wife Dawn of Bottineau; daughter, Nancy and her husband Damon McKay: grandchildren, Crystal (Brennen) Olson, Mercedes McKay, Karley Meyer, Kendra Meyer and Cayden Romfo; great granddaughter, Anneliese Olson; sisters, Leona Peterson, Blanche Olson and Judy (Mike) Pratt; brother-in-law, Leroy Larson and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband, daughter, Jenny Hope and parents, she was preceded in death by her sisters, Esther Larson, Ruth Polda, Dorothy Andel and Ethel Smith, and brothers-in-law, Chester Polda, Marlyn Smith, Bill Ringstad, Carrole Olson, Don Mackovicz and Phil Peterson
Arrangements were with Nero Funeral Home in Bottineau. Friends may sign the online register book at www.nerofuneralhome.net.
