Obituary

Shelley Bowers, age 72 of Bottineau, passed away on Monday, March 31, 2025 at a Bottineau hospital.  Her memorial service will be held on Friday, April 18, 2025 at 10:30 am at the Nero Funeral Home in Bottineau.

Shelley L. Bowers was born on August 18th, 1952 in Bottineau, ND. She was the eldest daughter of Willis and Shirley (Berge) Bowers. Shelley was raised on a farm near Souris, ND. Growing up on the farm required many chores but she enjoyed getting out of the house and helping Willis (Dad) on the farm. They had dairy cattle on the farm that had to be brought in every night for milking and Shelley was always out helping round up the cows and milking them every night. She also really enjoyed driving the grain truck around the farm.

She graduated from Souris High School in 1970 and then went on to attend a year at the School of Forestry in Bottineau. Afterwards she went on to work at the Anchor Inn and later the Birchwood as a cook. Following her passion for cooking she moved to Harve, MT in 1980 and continued her career in the cooking field. During her free time, she enjoyed getting outside and golfing. She still has her wooden golf club set. In 1992, Shelley moved to Seattle Washington. Of course, she continued her working field in cooking. Wendy, one of Shelley's sister lived out in Seattle with her husband Dale and their two kids Donald and Anthony. Her two nephews were always with Shelley growing up in Seattle and she grew a very close bond with them. They gave her a nickname of "YO" and still to this day was her name to them. She was a big Seattle Mariners fan and took the boys to many baseball games as well as took in many little league baseball games the boys played in. Shelley's nephew Curtis and his 3 kids lived close by and made many visits as well during her time in Seattle.

Shelley returned to Bottineau in 2015. She moved into her apartment near the Forestry Park where she quickly fell in love with her little place she called home. Shelley's wheelchair never stopped her from doing anything she wanted to do. Shortly after she moved in she started cleaning up her backyard by trimming branches and shrubs, raking the backyard, and starting a small garden. She very much enjoyed her plants and watching the birds and squirrels through her window.

She was always baking goodies for her neighbors and for those that would stop by would always leave with a handful of delicious treats made by her. During the winter months she picked up needlepoint art, reading her books, and was always working on the family tree. She did a lot of research and kept all the family up to date on the family history.

During the summer, Shelley was well known to be roaming through the Forestry Park making conversations with almost everyone she ran into. She was very easy to get along with and could start a conversation with anyone. Her neighbor across the hall had just recently moved in within the last year and had a dog named Bane. lt didn't take long for Bane and Shelley to become best buds. She was always taking him on strolls with her through the park. Shelley also occasional in the summer strolled down to Walmart making stops along her way to say hello.

Shelley will be missed dearly by so many people. The park will not be the same without everyone getting to see her smile and her kind heart as she strolled by saying hello.

Shelley was preceded in death by her parents, Willis and Shirley Bowers, and her brother in law Dale Liberty.

Shelley is survived by her sisters, Judy (Clay) Ramsden of Deloraine, MB and Wendy Liberty of Seattle, WA; brother, Robin (Melonie) Bowers of Souris, ND; Nephews: Wade (Elizabeth) Bowers, Matt (Braidy) Bowers, Dustin (Angela) Bowers, Donald (Larissa) Liberty, Anthony Liberty, Jason Ramsden, Curtis (Alicia) Ramsden, Cole Ramsden; Niece: Kelsey (Kristopher) Katarzy; Great nephews; Chad (Caylee) Ramsden, Nathan Ramsden, Kolton Ramsden, Jaxon Ramsden, Knox Ramsden, Korban Bowers, Kage Bowers, Hayes Bowers, Kayce Bowers, Reece Katarzy; Great nieces: Darian Ramsden, lsabelle Ramsden, Madison Ramsden, Kamea Bowers, Esther Bowers, Parker Katarzy, Sage Kalarzy, Scarlett Liberty; Great great nephew: Waylon Ramsden.
