Obituary

Shawn Belgarde, age 49 of Belcourt, passed away on Sunday, June 9, 2024 near Belcourt.  Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, June 18, 2024 at 1:00 pm at the St. Michael's Catholic Church in Dunseith.  His wake will also be Tuesday starting at 11:00 am at the church.  Burial will be at the St. Louis Cemetery near Dunseith.

Shawn Shannon Belgarde passed away at the age of 49, on June 9th, 2024. Shawn was born on November 15th, 1974 to the late Steven F. Belgarde and Delores M. Belgarde of Dunseith ,ND.   He was the youngest of eight children which included five girls and three boys.  Shawn was the Godfather of Shauntaye Kopecky.

Shawn is survived by Pati (Wayne) Cornelius of Greenbay, WI, Sandi (Neil) Karlson of Morristown, AZ, Wanda Belgarde, Stuart Belgarde, Lance Belgarde of Bismarck, ND, and Michelle (Casey) Kurle of Mercer, ND. and his Goddaughter Shauntaye Kopecky.

His nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews are too numerous to mention but they had a special love for Shawn.

The pallbearers are Stuart Belgarde, Lance Belgarde, Davalance Depoe, Daven Depoe, Sharlo Davis, Dalton Kopecky, Hunter Karlson, and Braden Allery.  The special honorary pall bearer is Neil Karlson and all of his nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.

The readers are Braden Allery and Nashae Bercier and gift bears are Sheena Karlson and Nashae Bercier.  The rosary is led by Wanda Belgarde.

Shawn acquired an Associate of Business Administration Degree at the Turtle Mountain Community College as well as a CDL.

He worked at the Bureau of Indian Affairs Road Department in Aberdeen, S. D. as a road's inspector.  He competed and received numerous awards in the Bureau of Indian Affairs Rodeo Heavy Equipment Competition.   He later started his own towing business (Dee's Towing) in honor of his mother.

Shawn loved to tow cars and work with heavy equipment.  Many bets were made with family members with much laughter to determine if he could hit his mark, which he always did. He was an amazing heavy equipment operator.

He will join his family in eternity with his loving parents Steve and Delores, sister Yvette Belgarde, niece Natasha E. Depoe, nephew Stuart Belgarde Jr. and his love of his life Brenda Bercier. Shawn will be laid to eternal rest at the St. Louis Cemetery in Dunseith, ND.
