Obituary

Sadie Jelleberg, age 89 of Bottineau passed away on Wednesday, February 22, 2023, at a Minot Hospital. Visitation will be held at Nero Funeral Home in Bottineau on Friday, March 10th from 4-7. Funeral services will be held at Nero Funeral Home in Bottineau on Saturday, March 11th at 10:30 AM.

Sadie June Fay Jelleberg was born on June 20, 1933, to John and Gunda Fay in Rugby, ND. She grew up on a farm near York, ND, until she was eleven when the family relocated to Rugby. While in HS, Sadie was involved in music, The Rainbow Girls, and held jobs at various businesses. In 1954, Sadie graduated from the Good Samaritan Hospital Nursing School in Rugby, the last class to graduate from the school. She married Everett Jelleberg the same year. The couple settled on a farm in 1957, near Gardena. Sadie was involved in the farming operation as well as being active in PTA at Gardena Special School, 4-H, Home Makers, and the First Lutheran Church in Bottineau.

In 1971, the family moved to Bottineau. Sadie worked at the Bottineau Clinic and Hospital, the Good Samaritan Home, and NDSU-BBIF, later known as Dakota College. While employed at the college as their nurse, Sadie completed her Associate of Arts Degree. She also obtained her classification as a Level 2 Nurse. She was asked to teach "I Can Cope Classes" for cancer patients and their families. After retiring from nursing in 1991, Sadie began a new career as a licensed real estate agent.

As a child, Sadie was in band and took piano lessons. She encouraged her children to pursue music when she would play piano, and they would sing along with her. Sadie attended the music concerts of her children and grandchildren. Education was important to both Sadie and Everett. She was proud that her three daughters completed their master's degrees in education. Four of their grandchildren went on and completed theirs so far. Sadie enjoyed engaging in sports with Everett. They were on a bowling team and golfed together. In the winter, she would pack a lunch and the two of them could be found playing pinochle while ice fishing. Both Sadie and Everett were spectators to their children's and grandchildren's sports. In the 80's, the couple took ballroom dancing at the college. People would come to visit only to find them dancing in the kitchen, rather than doing the dishes.

Her faith was especially important to Sadie. She taught Sunday School and served on the church's board. In June, when the Bottineau County Fair was in town, Sadie baked homemade pies and worked at the First Lutheran Food Stand. Sadie and her children attended church every Sunday along with her mother-in-law, Julia. People will remember the phone ringing, and Sadie saying the coffee was hot or that there were fresh caramel rolls in the oven. Her kitchen counters were always full of baked goods; it was a rare day someone didn't stop by for coffee or to visit. Years after she retired, former students from the college or friends of her children would come to visit. Sadie had a skill for listening and making people feel special. Sadie loved to travel, having made three trips to Europe as a nurse with the International Music Camp. She traveled to see her friends and relatives on the West Coast as well as neighboring states. In 2017, Everett passed away, marking the end of their sixty-three-year marriage.

Sadie moved into an apartment where she kept his memory alive. Sadie reached the end of her journey here on earth on February 22, 2023 and was welcomed into Heaven by Everett and by countless friends and family. Many people will miss her here.

Left on earth, holding the torch, are Sadie's four children: Jackie (Jerome) Migler, Susan Jelleberg, Sally Jelleberg, Bob Jelleberg; Grandchildren: Jessi Migler (Dan Sagisser), Jake (Megan Funk) Migler, Frank (Lisa) Swiontek, Katie (Ben) Schestler, Chennettee Jelleberg, Sam Jelleberg, Adyson Jelleberg; special granddaugher, Jennifer Johnson; Great-grandson: Everett Swiontek; Sisters: Pat Monger, Marge Krohn.
