Obituary

Ronald Houmann, age 79 of Westhope, died Saturday, July 6, 2019 at a Bottineau hospital.  His funeral will be held on Wednesday, July 10, 2019 at 1:00 pm at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Westhope.  Visitation will be Tuesday from 1:00 pm until 9:00 pm with a prayer service at 7:00 pm at the Nero Funeral Home in Bottineau.

He was born February 12, 1940 to Clarence and Josephine (Albertson) Houmann. He was a 1958 graduate of Westhope High School.  He then attended college in Minneapolis, MN for general mechanics.  After he graduated he enlisted and served his country as a member of the United States Army.  He attended basic training in Ft. Leonard Wood, MO and spent the remainder of his service stationed in Germany.  Following his honorable discharge from the U.S. Army, he lived and worked on the family farm with his father and brother. On June 26, 1966, Ron married the love of his life Dorothy (Tohm) at Zion Lutheran Church in Gardena, ND.

Ron served on the Sergius Township Board, and was an active member of the Westhope Lions Club.  He enjoyed hunting, fishing, playing cards, and boating.  He especially liked to visit about his time spent in Germany, talking about cars, and photographing wildlife.

He is survived by his children, Michele (Jeff) Bjugstad, Wahpeton ND; Michael Houmann, Minot, ND; Holly (Ritchie) Gimbel, Souris, ND; Nicole Houmann, Fort Collins, CO;  Karla Bartelt, Prior Lake, MN; grandchildren:  Chelsey (Anthony) Lorenz, David Thompson, Dustin (Karly) Thompson, Tinisha (Jacob) Rodgers, Alysha (Tyler) Sherman,  Carl and Kyle Bjugstad, Wyatt Bartelt, great grandchildren:  Riley, Josephine, and Lillian Lorenz, Olivia and Roen Thompson, Bentleigh and Axel Sherman and friend Lana Lindstrom.

He was proceeded in death by his wife Dorothy, parents Clarence and Josephine Houmann, and brother Leroy Houmann.
