Reuben F
Guttormson
May 26, 1915 — Dec 18, 2017
Reuben Guttormson, 102, passed away December 18, 2017 at Augusta Place in Bismarck. Services will be held Friday December 29th at 11:00AM at the Nero Funeral Home in Bottineau. Burial will be at the Oak Creek Cemetery in Bottineau.
Reuben was born in Benedict, ND on May 26, 1915. At a young age he and his family moved to the Turtle Mountains north of Bottineau, where he was raised on the family farm. He met the love of his life, Joyce, in Bottineau, where they married and began raising their family. Reuben entered the service in 1941 and was originally stationed in California where he was joined by Joyce and son Ron. He was then transferred overseas and served the remainder of WWII in the Philippines and Japan. Upon his discharge he returned home and the family moved to Willow City.
In 1953 the family moved to Ray where Reuben was employed in the oilfields, working for RA Prather and Sons as a foreman on the oil rigs. He then moved to Tioga and was promoted to Safety Officer for the company until his retirement. He loved the outdoors, enjoyed hunting and fishing, and in his later years golfing. He and Joyce then moved back to the Turtle Mountains for their retirement years where they enjoyed the wildlife and outdoor activities available. Not being one to rest very long, he became the manager of the golf course adjacent to Lake Metigoshe until he once again retired. They were members of the First Lutheran Church in Bottineau where Reuben, having a beautifully rich baritone voice, sang in the church choir.
In 2009 he and Joyce moved to Edgewood Vista in Bismarck where they met many new friends and were closer to family.
Reuben is survived by his sons Ron, Jim (Cheryl), Gary (Becky) and Tom (Kathy), and his daughters Louise Suko and Deb (Jack) Nicholson. He was preceded in death by his wife Joyce, daughters Linda and Marilyn, son Mike, and his parents.
Arrangements were with Nero Funeral Home in Bottineau. Friends may sign the online register book at www.nerofuneralhome.net.
