Peggy Wendland, age 70 of Westhope, died Saturday, June 29, 2019 at a Bismarck hospital.  Her funeral will be held on Wednesday, July 3, 2019 at 2:00 pm at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Westhope.  Visitation will be Tuesday from 3:00 pm until 7:00 pm at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Westhope.  Burial will be at the Westhope Cemetery.

Peggy Michelle Wendland, a daughter of Lester and Mona (Hjelmeland) Lee, was born on January 12, 1949 at Bottineau.  She was raised in Westhope and graduated from high school as a member of the National Honor Society.  Peggy took her junior and senior year of high school at the same time and graduated a year early in 1966.  During high school, she worked at Reinholdt's, a local clothing store.  After high school, she worked as a waitress at the Gateway Inn.  For many years, she worked as a legal secretary for Judge Ketterling which was her passion.  She was also employed in various positions at the local nursing home including being a CNA where she outwardly demonstrated her compassion for people.  She was a proud member of the Trinity Lutheran Church throughout her lifetime.   She taught Sunday School where she enjoyed the children and they enjoyed her.

Peggy dedicated her life to her children, grandchildren and studying the Bible.  Her knowledge and wisdom was always a comfort to those who loved her.  Some of her favorite things were watching movies with her grandchildren, working on crossword puzzles and fulfilling food requests from family and friends since she was an excellent cook and baker.  She had a beautiful voice and loved to sing and dance.  She took great joy in learning and was a wealth of knowledge.  Someone once said, "Who needs Google when Peggy is around?"  One of her priorities was tending to people and animals.  She frequently sacrificed what little she had to ensure her neighbors and local pets had food and went out of her way to meet someone's needs.

Peggy passed away on Saturday, June 29, 2019 at a Bismarck hospital.  She was surrounded and embraced by several family members who loved her dearly and will miss her immensely.

She is survived by her son, Jesse Smith and his wife, Brook of Bismarck; daughters, Shawn Meier and her husband, Dennis of Menoken and Patsy Rieke and her husband, Dustin of Minot; 5 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; brother, David Lee (Barb) of Bismarck; sisters, Rosemary Lee and Melinda Martin  of Las Vegas, and Dinah Hallof (Larry) of Westhope; brother-in-law, Larry Wendland of Bergen, ND and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Rodney Wendland and one grandson.
