Obituary

Ovidia Schneider, age 103 of Bottineau, passed away on May 15, 2022 at the Rolette Community Care Center. Her funeral will be held at the United Parish Bottineau on Saturday, May 21, 2022 at 10:00 am.  Visitation will be Friday from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm at the Nero Funeral Home in Bottineau.  Burial will be at the Landa Cemetery.

She was born September 19, 1918 at Landa, ND to Severin and Marie Forde. She was raised on the family farm along with 4 brothers. She graduated from Landa High School, where she was a cheerleader and played half court basketball. Their favorite cheer was, "We're from Landa the lutefisk town. Get out of our way or we'll knock you down." They got in trouble for that one. She attended and graduated from the Minot Business Institute. Ovidia was the postmistress in Landa and worked for the Westhope Bank where she met and then married Ole Sletten in 1946. They moved to Bottineau. There were 5 Children: Nancy, Ruth, Barbara, Karen and John. Ole was a plumber for Ace hardware and died in 1959. Ovidia went to work for St. Andrews Hospital, followed by the IH and Bottineau County, where she was county clerk of court until her retirement in 1983.

She married Wesley Schneider, in 1972. Wesley had 5 children; Paul, Diane, Allen, Dale and Pam. They were married for 40 years. Wes died in 2013.

Ovidia was the Methodist/United Parish organist for over 50 years and gave piano lessons to many of the local youth.

She lived at the Rolette Community Care Center for the past four years.

She is survived by her son-in-law Ronald Gust, daughters Barbara (Mike) Davis, Karen (Larry) Larson, daughter-in-law Judy Sletten and step-children Diane Sedlak, Dale (Leslie) Schneider, Pam (Bob) Ryan, 17 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren, 2 great great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her two husbands Ole and Wesley, daughters Ruth Gust, Nancy Steigerwalt and her husband Chester, son John Sletten, and step-son Allen Schneider.
