Oliver Francis Vallie, age 64, of Belcourt, ND, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Wednesday, August 3, 2022 at the Quentin N. Burdick Memorial Hospital in Belcourt.
Oliver Vallie was born on April 17, 1958, in Belcourt, ND, to Emil and Dorothy (Parisien) Vallie. He was raised in Belcourt and completed his education at the Turtle Mountain Community High School. Oliver was well known in the community by his nickname "Lover." He lived and worked in Grafton, ND, for many years where he worked as a carpenter in the construction field, a seasonal worker on the beet and potato harvest and at the Grafton State School. He later returned to live in Belcourt. Oliver was an avid hunter and loved to go fishing. He enjoyed listening to country music and hanging out with his nephews. He also liked going to the casino to socialize and play the games. He loved joking around and visiting with family and friends. He enjoyed watching his favorite team, the Minnesota Vikings, play football. He was the proud father of Tessie Vallie of Dunseith, ND, and Nick Poitra of Belcourt. He will be lovingly remembered and greatly missed by his family members and friends.
Oliver is survived by his daughter, Tessie (Lloyd Counts) Vallie of Dunseith; son, Nick Poitra of Belcourt; grandchildren, Angelique Vallie, Emily Counts, and Lloyd Counts IV, of Dunseith, Karter Jeanotte of Belcourt, and Bailey Guilbert of Rolla, ND; and his siblings, Keane Vallie, Kavin (Melissa) Vallie, Bryant Vallie, Ray (Linda) Vallie, Mabel DeCoteau, Betty (Matt McLeod) Vallie, Marie LaFontaine and Elma Martell, all of Belcourt.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Emil and Dorothy Vallie, his siblings, Dale Vallie, Andrew (Big Boy) Vallie, Philbert (PJ) Vallie, Joyce Vallie and Debbie Champagne.
A Funeral Mass will take place on Tuesday, August 9, 2022 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Belcourt with a visitation from 9:00-10:00 a.m. Burial will follow in St. Anthony's Catholic Cemetery in Belcourt.
