Obituary

Norma Jean Wright was born in Willow City, North Dakota to Archie and Ellen Wright on December 13, 1923. She graduated from the Willow City High School. Norma worked at various farms in the summers, and at one she met Victor Welin of Omemee. They married on April 15, 1943. They raised their four children on the farm – Ellen, Karen, Rae, and Mitchell.

Besides helping with chores on the farm, Norma kept busy cutting hair for neighbors,

making wedding cakes, sewing clothes for family members, and being involved in Homemakers and Ladies Aid with the Omemee Presbyterian Church.

In 1981, Victor and Norma sold the farm and bought a home in Bottineau. They became members of the United Parish. Norma worked at the Good Samaritan Home for over 15 years. Victor died in 1983, when Norma was only 59 years old. Several years later, she sold their home and moved into Oak Manor in Bottineau.

In 2005, Norma moved to an apartment in Plano, Texas to be near her daughter, Ellen and family. She joined the West Plano Presbyterian Church. She quickly made friends and adjusted to living in a new state after living in North Dakota for 82 years. Whatever social event she attended, she always brought her homemade deviled eggs that everyone enjoyed. She liked attending plays and concerts, playing cards, and traveling to see relatives, friends, and her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Her favorite thing to do was "visit."

Norma passed away at Prestonwood Rehab in Plano, Texas on November 27, 2019. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and all of her siblings –

Clarence Wright, Julia Dissette, Maggie Lee, Luella Niemela, and a great-grandson, Zac Thomas.

Norma is survived by her children – Ellen (Bob) Morton of Plano, Texas, Karen (Jim)

Charnholm of Salt Lake City, Utah, Rae (William) Waterman of Lake Oswego, Oregon, and Mitch (Maggie) Welin of Coral Springs, Florida. Norma has seven grandchildren –

Mike Charnholm, Karla Knappenberger, Andrea Thomas, Nicole Coats, Todd O'Sullivan, Jonathan Welin, and Jamie Welin. She also has 13 great-grandchildren.

A celebration of life service will be held at West Plano Presbyterian Church in Plano, Texas. A memorial service will also be held this coming summer in Bottineau, North Dakota where Norma will be interred at Oak Creek Cemetery next to her husband, Victor.
