Nelda was born August 15, 1920 on the family farm near Harvey ND to Bennie and Winnie (Lindor) Alveshere. On that farm one brother and one sister joined the family. Until she was seven years old they would travel to Harvey with horse and buggy for supplies. Her father bought their first automobile to take her to Fram school. When she was eight, they moved to a farm near Harlow, ND. She went to Fish Lake and Harlow schools completing her senior year at Benson County Agricultural and Training School (BCATS) in Maddock in May 1939. Then she graduated from Minot State Teacher's College in May 1941. Following her mother's profession, Nelda started teaching in one-room rural school house near Sheyenne, ND. She later taught at Harlow, Esmond and Gardena and was a substitute teacher at Riverdale and Bottineau schools.
Nelda married Glen Waller of Harlow on Sep 3, 1944. They traveled to Dayton, Ohio where Glen was stationed at Wright Air Field. After WWII ended they lived in Harlow, Egeland, Esmond, Riverdale, and finally Bottineau, all in ND. Three children were born to the couple during those years - Shirley, Galen and David.
Nelda, a member of First Lutheran Church for over 62 years, made many quilts there when she was not at a Bible study group and was a WELCA member. She was a charter member of the St. Andrew's Hospital Auxillary and was active for many years until it was dissolved. She also was a member of the Turtle Mt. Retired Teachers Association. Nelda and Glen traveled to many states, Canada, Norway and Sweden. When Glen's health declined, she cared for him in their home until he passed away in 2006.
Nelda was preceded in death by her parents, husband, son Galen, daughter-in-law Deanna, brother Ward and sister Marlene Waagen. She will be missed by daughter Shirley (Larry) Wutzke, son David (RaeDell) Waller, 8 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren.
