Michael Bertsch, age 77 of Newburg, passed away on Monday, December 13, 2021 at a Fargo hospital.  His memorial service will be held on Friday, December 17, 2021 at 10:00 am at the Zion Lutheran Church in Kramer.

Michael Bertsch, a son of Andrew and Verna (Kaeding) Bertsch, was born on December 21, 1943 in Bottineau.  He was raised on the family farm near Kramer and graduated from Kramer High School in 1963.  He attended the North Dakota State School of Science in Wahpeton and earned a degree in Electrical Technology and also a degree in plumbing.  He returned to Kramer and began working on the family farm. Michael also worked in the oil fields as a pumper and put his electrician skills to good use in his spare time. Michael retired in 2005 and continued to live on the farm.

Michael enjoyed raising Norwegian Elkhounds throughout his lifetime. He also found pleasure in gardening, sharing the fruits of his labor with family and friends.

He is survived by his brother, Donovan Bertsch and his wife, Sheila of Bottineau; nieces Erica Wiisanen of Chattanooga, TN, Megan Mitzel (Anthony) of Plymouth, MN and Brenna Orstad (Carl) of Plymouth, MN; great nieces and nephews, Maya,Anya and Kai Wiisanen; Maren and Keaton Mitzel and sister-in-law, Lynda Bertsch of Orange, CA.

In addition to his parents, Michael was preceded in death by his brother, Kenneth and 2 nephews, Richard and Craig Bertsch.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be given to the Zion Lutheran Cemetery in Kramer or St. Andrew's Hospital Foundation in Bottineau.
