Melvin Schroeder, age 77 of Dunseith, died Friday at a Minot hospital. His funeral will be Thursday at 10:00 am at the St. Michael's Catholic Church in Dunseith. There will be a wake service on Wednesday beginning at 7:00 pm at the church.
Melvin Schroeder, a son of Walter and Mary (Parisien) Schroeder, was born on August 22, 1940 at Belcourt. He was raised north of Dunseith and attended Greatwalker School as a young man. On Nov 27, 1961, he married Marlene Demery at St. Mary's Catholic Church north of Dunseith. They made their home near Dunseith and raised 7 children, Darlene, Clarence, Marlin, Rodney, Christopher, Loretta and Kevin and one grandson, Billy Joe. He worked for the Turtle Mountain Tribe as a carpenter for over 30 years.
He was very proud of his and truly loved spending time with them whether it was hunting, cruising around, having cookouts or playing cards. He also enjoyed hunting with his children, grandchildren and nephews. He will be remembered for his wonderful sense of humor and his ability to connect with anyone especially his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. He will continue to live on through his children, sisters and extended family members whom loved him dearly.
He is survived by his children, Clarence (Ann) Schroeder of St John, Marlin (Tracy) Schroeder of St. John, Rodney (Constance) Schroeder of Dunseith, Christopher (Denise) Schroeder of Dunseith, Loretta (Curtis) Lafloe if Dunseith and Kevin (Jamie) Schroeder of Dunseith; grandchildren; great-grandchildren; sisters, Dora Ward, Cecilia (George) Azure both of Dunseith; sisters-in-law, Janice Schroeder, Carla Schroeder, Mary Rose (Roger) Counts and Ruth Hunt all of Dunseith; brothers-in-law, Albert Azure of St. John and Donald Peltier of Dunseith and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death his wife, Marlene; daughter, Darlene Schroeder; sisters Theresa Azure, Martha Azure and Evalyn LaFromboise; brothers, William Schroeder Jr, Alfred Schroeder and Walter Schroeder and his Father-in-law and mother-in-law, John and Clara Demery.
Arrangements were with Nero Funeral Home in Bottineau. Friends may sign the online register book at www.nerofuneralhome.net.
