Martha M. Gravseth, 95, of Souris, ND passed away peacefully on Monday, November 23, 2020 at Eventide Heartland Care Center in Devils Lake, ND with her daughters by her side. Martha Margaret Gravseth, a daughter of Jacob and Christina (Gienger) Gartner, was born on May 11, 1925 near Kramer, ND. She was raised and educated in Kramer. While working at Tony's Place in Souris, she met the love of her life, Erling Gravseth. They were married on June 4, 1944 at the Zion Lutheran Church in Kramer. They moved to the Gravseth Family Farm near Roth, where they raised small grains and livestock. Martha and Erling were blessed with four children. Martha said her family was complete with two sons and the birth of twin daughters. Later they would welcome 10 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren and 1 step great-grandson. Erling passed away on February 18, 2009. Martha continued to live on the farm with her cat Maggie until suffering a stroke on October 3rd, 2020. She then moved to the Eventide Heartland Care Center in Devils Lake, ND.
Martha was a member of the Lesje Lutheran Church where she served on the Ladies Aid. Martha had a quiet but strong faith and Lesje was her community. Her pride and joy was her family and her home on the farm was her heart place. She loved to garden and enjoyed a good game of cards and cribbage. She loved to go to the grandkids activities & was proud of their accomplishments. She was also a avid Minnesota Twins fan and enjoyed several trips to Target Field with her family. Martha loved to cook and to bake, making all of the family favorites. There was always fresh buns and brown bread. The day she suffered her stroke, she was in the process of making buns. She also loved the family tradition of celebrating Christmas with the entire family at the farm and one we will all miss. She has impacted each of us, and will be missed each and every day.
She is survived by her sons, Gary (Yvonne) of Burlington and Dennis (Evon) of Bottineau; twin daughters, Barb (Chuck) Olson of Devils Lake and Bev (Marv) Cooley of Grand Forks; grandchildren, Scott Gravseth, Chad (Kim) Gravseth, Shantel (Mike) Hess, Matt (Hital) Cooley, Sean (Hanna) Cooley, Jake Cooley, Alex (Trisha) Olson, Mallory Olson and Kelley Olson; great grandchildren, Tyler (Megan) Gravseth, Trevor Gravseth, Nicklaus Hess, Ella Hess, Ian Cooley, Evelyn Cooley, Emma Cooley and Nora Olson; step granddaughters, Amber (Chris Fracker) Keanner and Autumn Keanner; step-great grandson, Renlee Keanner and numerous nieces and nephews.
