Obituary

Marlyce Larson, 88, Minot, passed away peacefully on June 12, 2021 at a Minot nursing home. Her funeral will be held on Friday, June 18, 2021 at 10:00 am at the First Lutheran Church in Bottineau.  Visitation will be Thursday from 1:00 pm until 7:00 pm at the Nero Funeral Home in Bottineau.  Burial will be at the Oak Creek Cemetery in Bottineau.

Marlyce was born July 8, 1932 to Henry and Clara (Abrahamson) Flaata on the family farm near Bottineau, North Dakota. She grew up on the family farm and attended grade school in the Turtle Mountains. She attended Bottineau High School and graduated in 1949.

While in high school, Marlyce took a part-time job at First National Bank in Bottineau. The banking business suited her, and she continued working there for the next 40+ years, retiring in 1994.

Marlyce met a young man by the name of Audrin Larson in the early 1950's. On November 8, 1953, they were married at Manger Lutheran Church. They resided in Bottineau, and welcomed two daughters into the world. In 1963, they moved to their dream home in the foothills of the Turtle Mountains.

Once Marlyce retired, she was devoted to her family full-time. She doted on her grandchildren, and they in turn adored her. It was always known there would be plenty of coffee and goodies when visiting her. She arguably made the best potato salad in the world. Along with the salad was her lefsa, buns, flat bread, and her famous Thanksgiving meals, complete with three different types of homemade pie. Some of Marlyce's hobbies included baking, sewing, snowmobiling, walking and volunteering at her church.

In 2014, with Alzheimer's making a strong presence, she moved to Trinity Homes, in Minot, North Dakota. There, she made many friends, and looked forward to visits from Audrin and her daughters. Always the hard-working Norwegian, she often could be found cleaning up after meals in the dining room or helping staff fold towels. Audrin passed away in 2018, and she continued residing at the Homes.

Marlyce is survived by her daughters Pam Hart (Keith), and Penny Johnson (Larry Meyer). Also surviving is Brother Wendell Flaata (Susan); Five grandchildren: Toby Johnson (Kylene), Cassandra Sampson (Eric), Elizabeth Lund (Matt), Jodi Hart and Andrew Hart; seven great-grandchildren: Madison and Luke Sampson; Cade, Mia and Colter Johnson; and Nolan and Marly Lund. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Those waiting for her in heaven include Husband Audrin; her parents; siblings: Harlan Flaata, Orlene Larshus and Hazel McPherson, along with numerous brother and sister-in-laws, and aunts and uncles.

Arrangements were with Nero Funeral Home in Bottineau.  Friends may sign the online register book at www.nerofuneralhome.net.
