Marit Rae Kana, age 56 of Westhope, passed away on December 26, 2024 in Bottineau. Her funeral will be held on Thursday, January 2, 2025 at 11:00am at the Nero Funeral Home in Bottineau. Her service will be livestreamed at https://www.youtube.com/@nerofuneralhome6627/streams .

Marit Rae Kana, a daughter of John and Sonja (Israel) Kana, was born on July 10, 1968 in Dallas, Texas. She attended grade school in Michigan and later graduated high school in Grand Junction Colorado from Life Academy Christian school. During her school years, Marit played the piano and flute. She ran track and field, and was also a cheerleader. Marit's first job was at the Baskin-Robbins, and she also volunteered at the VA hospital.

After graduation, Marit attended a couple years of college in Arizona before enlisting in the US Army in 1988. She attended the Defense Language Institute in Monterey California. She was later stationed in Korea. Her job title was a Voice Intercept Analyst. She was fluent in Korean. Marit shared many fond memories of her time in Korea.

Marit met Gener Aviso while in the military. They got married and moved back to the United States together in 1991. She had her son Jordan shortly after moving back. Marit discharged from the military in 1992.

Marit and Gener moved to Bismarck North Dakota in 1992. Marit loved working as a waitress at Denny's and she also worked for the North Dakota Highway Patrol. They had a daughter in 1993, Moriah. Marit and Gener later divorced.

Over the years, Marit lived in Michigan, Towner N.D., Bottineau N.D., until finally settling in Westhope with her two dogs and three cats.

Marit loved Westhope. She enjoyed spending time at the pool with her grandson Owen, loved cooking, taking her dogs for walks, feeding the birds and riding her moped around town to see what was going on. Marit loved to travel and dine out when she could. Las Vegas was her favorite place to go and she tried to get there every three months.

Marit worked from home for the last 11 years dispatching rides for a medical transportation company out of Michigan. She had a knack for computers and technology.

Marit was a generous supporter of Jordan and Moriah's dreams. She always cheered the loudest at all events of her grandchildren, never too shy to record the entire event to treasure at a later time. She stayed positive until the end knowing the Lord would take her home. Marit will be in heaven surrounded in His glory until we all meet again.

Marit is survived by her father, John Kana; mother, Sonja Kana; brother, Thomas Erik Kana; son, Jordan Aviso; daughter, Moriah Aviso; grandchildren, Owen Aviso, Carson Brudwick, Connor Brudwick, Camden Brudwick, Cora Brudwick, and Casey Brudwick.

Marit was preceded in death by her grandparents, Margaret and Oliver Kana, Mary and Perry Israel, and aunts, Charlotte Constable and Jill Stamer .
