Obituary

Marian Johnson, age 90 of Bottineau, died Friday, August 28, 2020 at a Bottineau hospital.  Her funeral will be held on Friday, September 4, 2020 at 11:00 am at the First Lutheran Church in Bottineau.  Visitation will be on Thursday from 1:00 pm until 9:00 pm with a prayer service at 7:00 pm at the Nero Funeral Home in Bottineau.  Burial will be at the Salem Cemetery north of Bottineau.

Marian Evelyn Manz Johnson, was born on April 19, 1930 to Frank and Margaret Manz of rural McClusky, ND.  She attended consolidated school for the first 8 years.  After that, she moved into McClusky and lived with her grandparents while attending high school.  In 1949, she went to summer school at Minot Teachers College.  After the completion of her formal education, she was assigned to teach at the Loon Lake 4 School District in the Turtle Mountains.  She Taught school for one school year while staying with the Bjornseth family.  She walked to school early every day to start the fire in the stove to warm the school before the students arrived.  During this time, she met Lester Johnson and they were married on January 22, 1950.  Of this union, came seven children.  They lived and worked in several areas around Bottineau.  In 1960, they purchased the family farm from Les' parents.  There they lived for 20 years while raising their family, putting up hay and milking cows.  Also during this time, Marian taught Sunday School at Metigoshe Lutheran Church and was a 4-H leader.  She loved gardening and singing in the church choir and the Ladies Community Choir.  She loved traveling and had many adventures across the U.S. and Canada.  In the winter, she would snowmobile nearly every weekend.

Marian loved her church and her God and raised her family to as well.  In 1981, they moved into Bottineau and lived there until 2019, when Marian moved to St. Andrew's Long Term Care.  Marian always had a camera in hand and ready and has many treasured photos today.

She was a member of the First Lutheran Church in Bottineau where she spent a lot of time working as a custodian and volunteering her time.  She also worked at the Senior Citizens Center and as a house keeper for many people on the community.

Marian loved to attend her grandchildren's programs and sporting events.  She was supportive, kind and never judging.

She passed away on August 28, 2020 at a Bottineau hospital.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Lester, son, Keith, and daughter, Margaret.

She is survived sons, Loren (DeMaris), Bruce and Brian (Carrie) all of Bottineau; daughters, Linda (Bill) Pugh of Miles City, MT and Mary (Thomas) Lindquist of Bismarck; numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren; brother, Herbert (Mary Lou) Manz of Dickinson; sisters, Violet Arden of Westhope and Adeline Wynne of Lynwood, WA.
