Margo Helgerson, age 73 of Westhope, died Saturday, November 2, 2019 at her home. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, November 9, 2019 at 10:00 am at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Westhope.
Margo Joanne Helgerson, the daughter of Martin and Margaret (Engstrom) Helgerson, was born on December 1, 1945 in Oakland, CA. They lived in Landa where Margo attended school until moving to Westhope in 1962. Margo graduated from Westhope High School in 1963. She attended Gustavus Adolphus College in St. Peter, MN and later Minot State University where she earned her degree in banking. She began working at the People's State Bank in Westhope in the early 1970's. Margo worked there until retiring earlier this month. She also worked as a bookkeeper for Ballantyne Oil and Great American Royalties and was head trustee of the Arthur and Edith Pearson Foundation. Margo served on the Westhope City Council from 1980 until 1984 when she became mayor. A position she held until 2018.
She was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Westhope. Margo was very active in many groups and boards including: National Association of Financial Women, the Sakakawea Group, Sparak User Group, Westhope Community Club, Westhope Community Ambulance, Westhope EDC, Westhope Reunion Committee, Westhope Centennial Committee, Turtle Mountain Tourism Board, Souris Basin Planning Council, St. Joseph's Community Foundation, the Medora Foundation, Gustavus Adolphus College Alumni and many more.
She is survived by many loving family and friends.
Margo was preceded in death by he parents, Martin and Margaret.
Arrangements were with Nero Funeral Home in Westhope. Friends may sign the online register book at www.nerofuneralhome.net.
In lieu of flowers, the family request that memorials be given to the Landa Cemetery.
