Obituary

With heavy hearts we announce the unexpected passing of Lyle Patrick LaRocque Sr. At 66 years of age, he peacefully passed on Wednesday, January 14, 2026 at his home in Dunseith, ND. He was a proud member of the Turtle Mountain Band of Chippewa Indians.

Lyle entered the world on April 20, 1959 to Charles Steven LaRocque and Shirley Poitra LaRocque in Belcourt, ND.

Lyle was a "Jack of all trades". Throughout his life he worked as a: Carpenter, Butcher, Mechanic, Construction worker, to name a few. He did not shy away from a challenge. He was often the "go-to" person for friends and family needing a helping hand.

Lyle's smile and laugh were contagious, especially doing what he enjoyed. He started his day with a cup of coffee while visiting family and friends either in person or by phone, especially with his sister Laurie.

During his life, hanging out with friends and/or family riding horse, camping, playing cards and visiting were a few activities that Lyle enjoyed.

Lyle's face would light up when talking about his children or grandchildren, especially if he was going to Newtown to see them.

In Lyle's early years he met and fell for the 'late' Clarice Reed. Together they created a legacy of love, through their children and grandchildren. They have five sons: Sterling, Colin, Lyle Jr., Ethan (Moose), and Quinn. Two daughters: Colleen and Sasha. Eleven grandchildren.

In Lyle's later years he met and married the late, Michelle Thompson. During his years with her he was happy to step father three sons, Damion, Nathan, and Lonnie, one daughter Lanae. Six grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

Lyle is survived by: four brothers; Robert (Renee), Mike (Nichole), Chuck, and Virgel. Five sisters; Sherry (Paul), Laurie (Curtis), Darcy (David), Judy (Tom), and Beverly. His children, grand and great grandchildren. Many nieces (great) and nephews (great).

His parents and a sister Renee preceded him in death.

We invite you to share a celebration of Lyle's journey on Wednesday, January 21, 2026 at 1:00 pm at the Eagle Heart Log House in Dunseith, ND.

Death leaves a heartache no one can heal; Love leaves a memory no one can steal.
