LuElla was born on October 9, 1926, to Carl and Clara (Olson) Soland in rural Kramer. She was the youngest of four brothers, Clinton, Claremont, Richard and Gordon, and one sister, Doris Hagen. They all preceded her in death.

Lawrence died in November of 1968. After several years, LuElla moved to Bottineau and her oldest son, Larry, took over the farm.
In 1977, LuElla married Gerald Deahl and moved to Seattle, WA. After a few years of missing her family, they returned to North Dakota and settled in Minot. Gerald died in 2003. LuElla continued her life in Minot until October 2019; when she then moved to Assisted Living in Hillsboro to be closer to her daughters, Betty and Bonnie.
