Memorial services  for Lowell Helgerson, 89, of West Fargo, formerly of Bottineau were held on Tuesday, August 14, 2018 at 11:00 am at the United Parish in Bottineau. Officiating at the service was the Reverend Ken Mund. LeAnn Bremner was the organist and Leo Jostad was the soloist. A reading was read by Tom Helgerson. Lowell was born on August 21, 1928 in Bottineau, North Dakota, the son of Oscar and Caroline (Gangstad) Helgerson. He left Bottineau at the age of 14 and moved to Rochester, MN. He graduated from Rochester High School and the University of Minnesota with a degree in Agricultural Economics and an ROTC officer's commission in the Air Force. He completed pilot training, earned his wings, and flew F-80 and F-84 fighter jets. After the service, Lowell married Colleen McCullough on March 24, 1956 in Bottineau. They made their home in Rochester, MN where he sold farm machinery before going to work at the Rochester Airport where he served as Airport Manager for 30 years. After retirement in 1992, Lowell and Colleen enjoyed fifteen years of active retirement, traveling extensively while making their home in Hot Springs Village, Arkansas with extended visits to Lake Metigoshe each summer. In 2007 they moved "back home" to Bottineau.

Along with his interest in aviation, Lowell was an avid waterfowl hunter and enjoyed training Labrador Retrievers. Lowell was a devoted husband and father. Family, both immediate and extended, was a great treasure to him. He was very active in the Rochester community through Rotary, the Chamber of Commerce, Ambassadors and more. He made friends easily through a genuine interest in people and a caring nature. Once formed, these friendships endured across the years and the miles, from the Rochester Archery Club, through his career, 8 th Street, Hot Springs Village and Bottineau and all those in between. Thank you to all of his friends for the joy and richness you added to life.
