Bierman
May 11, 1935 — Oct 5, 2021
Lorraine Bierman, 86, Newburg, ND, passed away Tuesday, October 5, 2021 at the Good Samaritan Center, in Bottineau ND. Her funeral will be held on Saturday, October 9, 2021 at 11:00 am at the Dovre Lutheran Church in Newburg. Visitation will be Friday, from 1:00 pm until 7:00 pm at the Nero Funeral Home in Bottineau. Burial will be at the Oak Creek Cemetery in Bottineau.
Lorraine Alice Zorn was born to Louis and Hazel (Hall) Zorn in Bottineau, ND, on May 11, 1935. She was baptized on July 14, 1935 and confirmed on July 18, 1948 both at Zion Lutheran Church Gardena. She graduated from Gardena High School in 1953.
She married Myron Bierman on June 13, 1954 in Gardena, North Dakota. They made their home in the Gardena area where she was a housewife. They moved the family to Newburg, in 1970. She worked at the Westhope Nursing home in the kitchen for a time and then began her employment at the Newburg United School as a cook. She held this position until retirement in 1998.
Students that she cooked for during this time still talk about her homemade bread, buns, caramel rolls, pizza-witches, sloppy joes and the many other delicious foods Lorraine had made. On game days, Lorraine would always be sure to cook a meal with "pasta" so the players would have energy for good game!
Her creamed macaroni was requested often by her kids & grandkids. None of them have been able to make it "quite like grandma did". When they would ask her what the secret is, she would always say, "add more salt"! Her granddaughters, would often call and ask for a recipe, in which Lorraine would reply, "well I don't know how much, I never measure!"
Lorraine and Myron were usually in attendance for local sporting events and she would always be seen with a bag of popcorn in her hands. Lorraine always enjoyed going uptown for coffee with the women and would usually never miss a day.
The door to the Bierman house was always open. Many of her children, grand-children, and great-grandchildren's friends walked in and out, day or night, and usually left with a baked good, juice box, Schwan's ice cream treat & sometimes all 3 in their hand!
Lorraine LOVED her family. Her kids, grand-kids, and great-grand kids always knew how much they were loved and always felt "home" at the Bierman house. No matter the request, somehow, her grandkids always got what they wanted. For many years she would cook a big Christmas dinner for all of her family, extended family, and sometimes for those who didn't have a place to go, at the Newburg Senior Center.
She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, Gardena, St John Lutheran Church, Newburg & Dovre Lutheran Church Newburg. She helped with the making of the quilts & a member of the Newburg Senior Citizens. For many years she bowled on the women's league as well.
Lorraine is survived by her children: Nancy (Steve) Leslie Proctor MN, Bruce (Evette) Bierman Newburg ND, Penny Bierman Bottineau, ND Jeff (Joette) Bierman Towner ND, and Kevin Bierman Harvey ND; 9 grandchildren, Nicole Olson, Travis (Dayna) Leslie, Doug (Diana) Leslie, Michele (Nathan) Harms, Kelani (Tyler) Welstad, Braden (Meghan) Bierman, Josh (JJ) Bierman, Jon Bierman & Jerry Bierman; 13 great-grandchildren, Mykayla, Taylor, Alexis & Isaiah Olson, Blake Leslie, Grace Leslie, Schale, Evi, Rhett Welstad, Parker Plemel & Kenna Bierman, Esca & Esom Harms with 2 additional great-grandchildren expected to arrive in early 2022. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, great-nieces & great-nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Myron (October 13, 2013), her sisters Nina Wilson and Shirley Bullinger, her brothers Lester Zorn and Everett Zorn and their spouses.
