Loren Nelson Bernstein was born September 11, 1933, in Bottineau, North Dakota. He was the oldest son of LeRoy and Selma (Nelson) Bernstein. Loren grew up on the family farm northwest of Souris, ND. He attended grade school in a country school nearby. After attending his first year of high school, he felt the overwhelming desire to stay on the farm and went into partnership with his dad in farming and ranching, giving him the

opportunity to do what he loved most, working with black angus cattle.

In 1954, he met the love of his life, Loretta Aasheim, at a youth gathering of local churches. They were married on April 3, 1956 and to this union, 3 sons, Sam, Jeff and Dan were added to a family that was active in many community activities. He thoroughly enjoyed spending time with his family and encouraging his sons and grandchildren in what they endeavored to do, whether it was promoting their cattle operation or participating in sports. Loren loved to work and he expected everyone else to do the same, even though that was not always what they wanted.

Loren was a 4-H leader and served on the local elevator board. He was a director and president of the Bottineau County Fair Board. He was a director on the North Dakota Angus Association, and a member of the North Dakota Stockman's Association, and founder and director of the North Central Feeder Coop. He, along with his father and sons, raised and sold Angus cattle statewide.

Loren passed away on Thursday, January 23, 2020 at a Bottineau hospital, surrounded by his loved ones, after a long and courageous battle with cancer.

Besides his loving wife of 63 years, Loren is survived by his 3 sons, Sam and Jeff on the family homestead, and Dan (Hope) living in Fargo. Grandchildren, Jamison (Mari) living near Casselton, and Lexi, and boyfriend, Devyn living in Valley City. Two brothers, David (Faye), Mark (Joanne), and one sister Carol Joy (Leon) Richard and a special aunt, Anna Rose Evans living in the Bottineau area, and several nieces and nephews.

He was proceeded in death by his parents LeRoy and Selma Bernstein, his brother Laverne and sister -in-law Jean.
