Larry Gladue, age 69 of Dunseith, passed away on Wednesday, November 3, 2021 at a Minot hospital. His funeral will be held on Wednesday, November 10, 2021 at 10:00 am at the St. Anthony's Catholic Church rural Belcourt. His wake will be on Tuesday starting at 4:00 pm at the Church. Burial will be at the church cemetery.
Larry was born June 27th, 1952 in Belcourt ND to John & Kathleen (Larocque) Gladue. Larry was the 4th oldest out of 18 children. He attended school at the Hillside Country School, Turtle Mountain Community High School and graduated from Flandreau Indian School. Larry joined the U.S. Army in 1971, he then went on Active Duty on January 7th, 1972, serving in the Vietnam War with honorable discharge on December 17th, 1974. During his service he received the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with 1-Bronze Service Star; Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal. After service he went onto College at Haskell Indian College, then went onto Devils Lake Junior College. He then earned his Certificate as Grade Foreman, this is when he started his Road Construction Career. He worked for several companies over the years in the Construction Field, He was a dedicated employee and you couldn't get him to even take a day off. He started his career with Neshem/Peterson Construction, then went on to other companies such a Byron Construction, Harris Construction out of Oaks, Close Construction, Gratech Construction, Holen Construction, and his last Employer was Farden Construction where he retired in 2019.
In 1975 Larry met the love of his life Alva Azure. They later joined in marriage on July 7th, 1979. Together they raised 4 beautiful children, Bradley, Holly, Kendall, and Loren and were blessed with 17 Grandchildren. Larry was a loving father, grandfather, uncle, and brother to his whole family.
Larry enjoyed ranching for the family farm, playing and traveling to dfferent casino's, listening to his oldies while traveling such as Hank, George Jones, and Johnny Horten, gardening, hunting with his children and processing the harvested deer with his children as well. He has some nice mounts to prove it and he was very proud of his trophy bucks!
Larry is survived by his wife: Alva, Children: Bradley (Tracy) Azure Sr., Holly (Derrick) Poitra, Kendall (Heather) Gladue, and Loren (Kylie) Gladue. 15-Grandchildren; Baby Brad, Sadie, Sophee, Chase, Trace, Gracelyn, Erica, Hannah, Harlee, Kendra, Kenton, Jorja, Chauneya, Kayl, Mikayla, 10-Sisters; Karen, Elaine, Anita, Kathryn, Mary, Beanie, Georgie, Lynn, Katie and Rae, and 5-Brothers; Markie, Elvis, Mushy, Wishbone, and Rowdy, numerous nephews and nieces.
Larry is proceeded in death by his parents, John & Kathleen Gladue, In-Laws Frank & Agnes Azure, Brothers; Peter and Wayne Gladue, Grandchildren; Shatehya and Brett Azure, Nephew; Tyler Gladue, Niece; Stacey Poitra.
Arrangements were with Nero Funeral Home in Bottineau.
