Laris DeCoteau, age 67 of Dunseith, passed away on Saturday, June 14, 2025 at a Dunseith nursing home.  Mass of the Christian Burial will be held on Friday, June 20, 2025 at 10:00 am at the St. Michael's Catholic Church in Dunseith.  Burial will be at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery north of Dunseith.

Laris Dean DeCoteau was born October 27, 1957, in Belcourt, North Dakota to William 'Billy" and Telephine Villneave DeCoteau. Laris Passed away in Dunseith, North Dakota on June 14, 2025.

Laris grew up in Dunseith, North Dakota and attended school there until he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in November 1975. He married Cheryl Vivier in the summer of 1982, and they had three beautiful children: Larissa, Tyra, and Everett.  In 1983 Laris and Cheryl relocated their family to Oceanside, California where they resided until Laris' honorable discharge in October 1987. Upon moving home Laris began his career at Indian Health Services in Belcourt, North Dakota where he was employed until he retired in 2012.

Laris enjoyed being outdoors whether he was working on his cars or fixing up his home. Laris also enjoyed taking his grandkids on camping trips where he would take them fishing and end the evening with a cookout over the fire. Laris loved having visits with his grandchildren telling them stories all about his days in the United States Marine Corps and all the beautiful places he had seen.

Laris is Survived by Daughters Larissa (Allen Poitra) Vivier, Tyra (Charles Fox) DeCoteau, Tanya (Johnny) O' Claray, and a son Everett (Morgan Parisien) DeCoteau. Granddaughters Abigail, Gracie, Naya, Kiera, Cheyenne, Christina, and Danielle, Grandsons Caleb, Nehemiah, Kieran, Kynan, Micah, Cole, Drake, Johnny JR., Dayton and Urijah. His siblings, sisters Belinda DeCoteau, Iris Parisien, Lisa Jeanotte, and Rachel Beston. Brothers William "Billy Bayou" DeCoteau, Blaine DeCoteau and Clifford Martell. And many nieces and nephews.

Laris is preceded in death by his Parents William "Billy" and Telephine Villneave DeCoteau. Sisters Beverly Champagne, Rosena DeCoteau, and Robert Fleming and a brother Kevin DeCoteau. And his Girlfriend Sandy Slater.

Laris will always be remembered as a devoted father and a very loving grandfather; his grandchildren were the light of his life he lit up around them.

Laris leaves behind a legacy of kindness, hard work, and love that will continue to live on in everyone who knew him.
