Obituary

We are deeply saddened to share the passing of Karlee, who departed this world December 6, 2023.  Mass of the Chrisitan Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, December 12, 2023 at 10:00 am at the St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church in Dunseith.  The rosary will begin at 9:00 am and the eulogy at 9:30 am at the Church.  A time of lunch and fellowship will follow the service at the Eagle Heart Cultural Center in Dunseith.

Karlee Anne Hunt-Blue was born August 3, 1975, in Rolette, ND, as the first child of David and Carmelita Hunt. She grew up mainly in Dunseith and attended Dunseith Public School, where she was proud to compete as a member of the Dragons basketball team. She had many fond memories of her varsity days, including the traditional playing of "Mule Skinner Blues" by The Fendermen before each game, and the fact that she proudly holds the record for most technical fouls in a single season.

After graduating in 1993, she briefly attended Bismarck State College until an unfortunate injury ended her basketball career. Soon enough, Karlee found a new purpose in life in the form of her first child, James, who was born to her in 1996. Her twin daughters, Jenna and Emalee, joined her little family in 1997. She enjoyed spending time with her children, along with her nieces and nephews, sharing many inside-jokes and good-natured teasing. Snuggling with her girls while watching movies was a favorite pastime of hers. She also loved sharing the joy of her many fandoms with her children, siblings, and friends. Her favorite television show was Supernatural, she loved the Castlevania video game series, and Halloween was one of her all-time favorite movies. Her family and friends will best remember her as being unapologetically herself, from her loud, infectious laughter to her colorful use of language.

In September 2022, Karlee happily(finally) wed her long-time love and live-in partner, Levi Blue. Together with their three adopted daughters, the Blue family settled in Fargo, ND. She was excited at the prospect of becoming a grandmother, as her unborn grandchild, whom she affectionately nicknamed Baby Cheerio, is expected in March 2024.

Karlee is survived by her husband, Levi Blue of Fargo; her children – James Hunt of Grand Forks, Jenna Azure of Grand Forks, Emalee (David) Prosser of Bolivar, NY, adopted daughters Kaydynce, Kayloni, and Khloe, all of Fargo, and stepchildren Jaden Martin and Lindon Martin of Grand Forks; her parents, David and Carmelita Hunt of Dunseith; her siblings – Jill (Ben) Morin of Jamestown, David (Carla Decoteau) Hunt of Dunseith, and Phoebee (Landon) Stensland of Grand Forks; and numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.

She was preceded in death by her paternal grandparents, Blanche Hunt and Don Hunt; her maternal grandparents, Edward and Madeline Peltier; aunt Shirlee Morin; and several cousins, including our recently departed cousin Aaron Peltier, and our especially close cousin Jessica Eagle Staff.
