Junet was born on June 20, 1923 to Gustav and Anna (Hoibrenden) Berge . As one of 9 children, including a twin sister, Julie, she was raised on the Berge family farm near Souris, North Dakota. Jo was confirmed in her Christian faith at Turtle Mountain Church of Carbury and graduated from Souris High School in 1942.

On December 24, 1944, she married Raymond Kornkven, and together they formed a beautiful partnership. Their love for each other was evident to all. Ray and Jo began their marriage on a farm near Souris, ND, and after 7 years, they relocated to Bottineau. Ray and Jo attended Emmanuel Lutheran Brethren Church in Carbury, and later Grace Lutheran Brethren Church in Bottineau. The greatest gift she gave each of her family members was her unconditional love and grace, and in return, she was loved and respected beyond measure.

Jo's appreciation of art was evident in her daily living, her joy in serving was her gift to all that entered the doors of her home, and her deep love of Jesus, her family and her friends is how she will be remembered by those who knew her best.
