Obituary

Julie Ann Peltier, age 72, of Belcourt, ND passed away on Friday, January 17, 2020 at a Minot hospital surrounded by her loved ones.

Julie Ann Peltier was born on November 13, 1947 to Collin DeCoteau and Agnes Morin in Belcourt, ND.  She was raised in the Dunseith area and attended Wahpeton Indian Boarding School and Dunseith High School.

Julie met Ron Medrud and they were united in marriage in 1965.  Ron and Julie had three sons, Ronald "Stuart" (Allison) Medrud of Belcourt, ND, Troy Medrud of Rapid City, SD, and Gerald Medrud of Dunseith, ND. She later married Wayne Poitra in 1976 and together they had one son Steve (Kelly) Poitra of Belcourt, ND and she raised three step-sons, Wayne "Stompy"  (Jackie) Poitra, Jr. of Janesville, WI, Terry (Audra) Poitra of Belcourt, ND, and Chris Poitra of Mandan, ND.

Julie received her degree from Turtle Mountain Community College where she was inducted into Who's Who and graduated top of her class. After receiving her degree, Julie worked in the Tribal Court system as a Judge, an Advocate, and as the Public Defender until she retired.  After retirement she then went to work at Wal-Mart until she decided to go back to the Public Defender's office where she worked as an Assistant until the time of her death.

Julie liked to sing and she loved to dance, she even played the role of Tequila Rose at the Frontier Village in Jamestown, ND.  She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, always visiting wherever she went. Julie also enjoyed spending time at the casino.

Julie is survived by her companion, Terry Baker, her children; Ronald "Stuart" (Allison) Medrud, Troy Medrud, Gerald Medrud, Steve (Kelly) Poitra, three step-children; Wayne "Stompy" (Jackie) Poitra, Terry (Audra) Poitra, and Chris Poitra,  10 grandchildren, and 2 great grandchildren. Sisters; Shirley (Lawrence) Anderson of Beulah, ND and Ruth (Ed) Iron of Tulsa, OK, and nieces and nephews.

Julie was preceded in death by her parents, Collin DeCoteau and Agnes Morin.

Casket bearers are Terence Medrud, Dylan Medrud, Payton Medrud, Dalton Poitra, Drayton Poitra, Christian Gamboa-Poitra, Dallas Chase.

A visitation will be on Monday, January 20, 2020 beginning at 5:00 p.m. at St. Michael's Catholic Church, Dunseith, ND with a Rosary service at 7:00 p.m.  Funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday, January 21, 2020 at 10:00 a.m. in the Church with Fr. Michael Slovak presiding.

Burial will take place in the spring.  Meal will be held at the Eagle Heart Building in Dunseith following the funeral.

The family would like to thank everyone for their thoughts, prayers, kind words, and contributions during this difficult time. It did not go unnoticed and we will be forever grateful.
