Obituary

Judy Kvernum, age 74, of Bottineau, formerly of Rolette, passed away at St. Andrews Hospital on September 26, 2023. Funeral services will be held at Nero Funeral Home on Monday, October 2, 2023 at 2:00 pm. Visitation will be Sunday from 2:00 pm until 6:00 pm and on Monday from 10:00 am until service time at the Nero Funeral Home in Bottineau.

Judy Paulette Lee, daughter of Emil and Doris (Slough) Lee Sr., was born on March 18, 1949, in Rolette, ND. She was the second born of 8 children. Judy went to school in Rolette. Judy married Oliver Nelson on August 23, 1967. They had 3 children: Darlene, Darci and Darin. Their marriage later ended.

Judy was a stay-at-home mom when her children were young. She also provided daycare. Judy later worked at Saunder's Café and Sonny's Country Lanes. Judy was a talented cake decorator and seamstress for many years and she also baked lefse to sell for holidays. In the early 1980s, she opened Judy's Sewing and Alterations. This business closed when she returned to Rolette. Upon returning to Rolette, Judy began working at the Leonardo Noodle factory in Cando where she met Tim Kvernum. Judy and Tim were married on July 21, 1995. They resided in Cando and Rolette, ND. Together they enjoyed many years of fishing, Nascar races and spoiling the grandchildren. Tim passed away December 7, 2007.

Judy spent many years living in Rolette providing daycare in her home and was active within Ebenezer Lutheran Church. She later returned to Bottineau to be closer to her family. Judy's number one joy in life was being a grandma and received her nickname Gramma Toys.

Judy is survived by her children: Darlene Monson, Darci Nelson and Darin (Angie) Nelson, all of Bottineau; Grandchildren: Mitchell Gottbreht, Travis Gottbreht, Kaleb Gottbreht, Holden Indvik, Shaylee Spinks, Chris (Cailey) Soland, Brandon (Maggie) Biberdorf, Dillon (Mariah) Nelson, and Alyssa Nelson; Great grandchildren: Julian Gottbreht, Nola and Ellsie Soland, and Ada Nelson; Siblings: Emil Lee, Jr., Jane Geyer, Carl (Marla) Lee, Susan Brakke and Kandis (Jamie) Kittleson; and several nieces and nephews.

Judy is preceded in death by her parents, brothers Oluf Lee and Daniel Lee, and her beloved cat, Peaches.
