Obituary

Joyce Hasenwinkel, age 91 of Bottineau, passed away on Monday, September 16, 2024 at a Bottineau hospital.  Her funeral will be held on Friday, September 20, 2024 at 10:00 am at the Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Bottineau.  Visitation will be Thursday from 1:00 pm until 7:00 pm at the Nero Funeral Home in Bottineau.  Burial will be at the Oak Creek Cemetery in Bottineau.

Joyce Hasenwinkel, a daughter of Warren and Margaret (Thompson) Brown, was born on October 4, 1932 in Bottineau.  She was baptized and confirmed at the Presbyterian Church in Willow City.  She attended school in Rolette County until the 7th grade.  She moved with her parents to a farm in Bottineau County.  She graduated from Willow City High School in 1951.  After graduating, she stayed at home and cared for her mother. In 1954, she went to work at Williams Drug.  She met Arnie in in 1954 and they were married in June 10, 1955.  After their marriage, they moved to a farm north of Gardena and raised their 4 children. In 1989, they moved into Bottineau.  Arnie passed away March 12, 2012.

She was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church in Gardena where she taught Sunday School and was active in the LWML.  After moving to Bottineau, they became members of the Our Savior's Lutheran Church.  She enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandkids and could always be counted on to babysit when needed.  She was a big fan of the Minnesota Twins and loved to watch their games.  She also loved playing cards especially during family gatherings.  She was loved by many and will be dearly missed.

She is survived by her 3 children, Mary Mongeon, David (Tammy) Hasenwinkel and Dale Hasenwinkel; grandchildren, Jared (Heather)Mongeon, Kayla (Mike) Martinez, Eric (Chelsea) Mongeon, Ethan (Amanda) Hasenwinkel, Jed (Elizabeth) Hasenwinkel, Darin (Madison) Hasenwinkel and Crystal Holen and 9 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Arnie; son, Gary, son-in-law, Dan Mongeon; parents, Warren and Margaret Brown; step-mother, Doris and brother, Monte.
