Obituary

Jon M. Tonneson, age 76 of Newburg, passed away on Sunday, May 1, 2022 at a Bottineau nursing home.  His funeral will be held on Saturday, May 7, 2022 at 2:00 pm at the Grace Lutheran Brethren Church in Bottineau.  Visitation will be Friday from 1:00 pm until 7:00 pm at the Nero Funeral Home in Bottineau.  Burial will be at the Dovre Lutheran Cemetery at Newburg.

Jon, son of Otto and Margaret Tonneson, was born December 7, 1945 in Minot, North Dakota.  He was raised on the family farm in Newburg, North Dakota. He graduated high school from Dakota Lutheran Academy in Minot, North Dakota. He continued his education at Minot State College, Waldorf College in Forest City, Iowa, and graduated from Concordia College in Moorhead, Minnesota. While attending Concordia he farmed on a family farm in Twin Valley, Minnesota.  After graduating, he taught math for one year in Twin Valley, Minnesota.  His teaching career was short lived as the farm beckoned. He loved farming!  During the winter months, Jon was a recruiter for Waldorf College in Forest City, Iowa. During the time he farmed in Twin Valley, Jon met Joanie Moehlman, a teacher in Twin Valley. They married on October 28, 1972 in Park Rapids, Minnesota.  Five years later, a daughter was born, Jill (Tonneson) Britz. In 1977 they moved to Newburg, North Dakota to farm the home place.  Their son Jay was born in 1979.  In 1983 Jon began working for Custom Marketing Company out of Fargo, North Dakota.  He was a salesman of grain storage equipment.  He put on many miles visiting farmers and designing grain systems to meet their storage needs.  He enjoyed that so much, making many good friends over the years.  For many summers one could visit Jon in his tent for Custom Marketing at the North Dakota State Fair in Minot.

Jon loved being with his children and grandchildren, visiting with his extended family and friends, spending time at the family cabin on Lake Metigoshe, and all things farming.  He had a deep love for his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, and is now spending his eternity in heaven.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Otto and Margaret Tonneson.

He is survived by his wife, Joanie, his two children, Jill Britz (Andy) and their children Javin, Thalia, Kieran, Leif, and Mari of Boyceville, Wisconsin, Jay (Jennifer) and their children Zachary and Jackson of Newburg, North Dakota, his brothers Jim (Carolyn) and Jerry (Cindy), his sisters, JoAnne (Keith) Helland, and Jeannine Bruesewitz, nieces, nephews, and many cousins.
