Obituary

John Mundt 69 of Westhope entered eternal life Jan. 7,2023 from his home with his wife by his side.  He was under care of Heart of America Hospice, Rugby ND and his wife.

He was born December 22, 1953 to Emery and Gertrude Mundt of Birnamwood Wisconsin. He was raised on the family farm, baptized and confirmed at St. John Lutheran Church rural Birnamwood. He was educated at Birnamwood and graduated from Wittenberg-Birnamwood school in 1972. He then started his work career.

In January of 1974 he was united in marriage to Paula Palmer at St. John Lutheran Church. He resided in Wittenberg, WI while working as a head sawyer at a lumber mill, and later a head lathe operator at a veneer mill.  In 1979 he started a new career in the oil fields of North Dakota taking him to Wyoming, Colorado, Montana and many areas in North Dakota. Of all the work he did, working the oils fields was  his favorite. When the economy was poor in North Dakota he spent his time moving back to Wisconsin where the economy was good, when the economy was poor in Wisconsin he moved back to North Dakota and went back to the oil fields.  He permanently moved to North Dakota in 1996 where he made his home in 1998 in Westhope.

Johns hobbies included woodworking and gardening. He cut down trees, made the lumber, finished it and used it for his project which included cabinetry, doors, window, furniture and some custom work.  His gardening skills were very impressive . His ability to grow unusual plants was proven to him when he planted an oak tree from an acorn and it now stands 20 feet tall in his backyard.

Although John and Paula had no children they unofficially adopted all their nieces and nephews as their own.

John was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Joyce and many aunts and uncles, his brothers-in-law John Palmer, Chuck Palmer, sister-in-law Cheryl Hamel, niece, Renae Byre, nephew Ryan Palmer,

John is survived by his wife of 49 years Paula, his sister, Judy Mundt, brothers, Jim and Tim Mundt, sister-in-law, Marcy (Ron) Dahl, Rita Palmer and many nieces, nephews and cousins he dearly loved.

Funeral arrangements with Nero Funeral Home, Bottineau, ND

Cremation will take place. He requested no funeral, with burial to  take place at a later date.
