Obituary

Jean Zorn, age 93 of Bottineau, passed away on Wednesday, February 21, 2024 at a Bottineau nursing home.  Her funeral will be held on Thursday, February 29, 2024 at 10:00 am at the Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Bottineau.  Visitation will be Wednesday starting at 1:00 pm with a prayer service at 6:30 pm at the Nero Funeral Home in Bottineau.

Jean Luella was born September 22, 1930 to Mabel Ihla Aasheim and Joe Aasheim. She was raised in the Carbury & Bottineau areas of ND.  Jean lost her mother as a very young girl. She took on the role of mothering her 6 siblings until she was 16. She began her first job waitressing at the Stone Hotel, putting herself through Bottineau High School. Her friends fondly called her Jeanne.

Jean met Leo Zorn at a country dance. They became known for being fabulous dancers.  They were married October 27, 1950.  Their love song became, "My Happiness".  Jean took on a big farmstead knowing nothing about farming.  Jean and Leo raised 5 daughters and were often known to take in nephews and her brothers to farmhand for Leo in the fields or with cattle. Leo raised a large garden and Jean quickly learned to preserve anything they grew.  She often received loving help from Leo's mother Martha. She took Jean under her wing and mentored her, especially in the kitchen.

Jean guided her daughters in baking, cooking, sewing, and preserving foods. As a child, watching her work, whether a teaching moment or not, etched her talents in our memories. She worked with Dad to ensure her girls were cared for in every way. She introduced her daughters to music, a gift that has carried through their lives, and that of their children as well.  She felt her girls were her greatest accomplishment in her life.

Jean was very active in the American Legion Auxiliary and the VFW.  She was a lifetime member of both.  She was proud of her Norwegian heritage and was an active member of the Sons of Norway.  Jean grew up in the Emmanuel Lutheran church being baptized and confirmed there. She was a member of the Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Bottineau. She faithfully brought her girls to church and Sunday school and encouraged their faith in the Savior.

Jean was living at Good Samaritan prior to her death. The staff there knew and loved her. Our appreciation and thanks go to many of them for caring for her.  She had care from some very loving people.

Jean will be buried in Oak Creek Cemetery in Bottineau next to the love of her life, Leo. Although their souls are together in heaven, their bodies resting place is Bottineau, ND. Together again they will write the final verse of their love song "My Happiness".

Leo proceeded Jean in death. Surviving her are daughters Connie Landsverk (Roger is RIP), Linda Lumley (Gerald), Nancy Kofoid (Ed), Cynthia Putnam (Gene), Lori Carbno (Steve). She adored many grandchildren and great grandchildren as well.  She wept when she was told she had just become a great-great grandmother, but didn't get the chance to meet her new baby girl Kelsey.

She is also survived by sister Dorothy Smith (Charles), brothers Clayton (Connie), Bill (Terri), sisters-in-laws Elaine Aasheim, Myrtice Zorn, Norma Zorn.  Jean enjoyed a very large extended family and often offered a home to whomever needed loving care.

Arrangements were with Nero Funeral Home in Bottineau.  Friend may sign the online register book at www.nerofuneralhome.net.
