Obituary

Janice Lorraine Schepp, 98, passed away on December 29, 2024 in Bottineau, ND.  Her funeral will be on Saturday, January 4, 2025, at 11:00 am at the Dovre Lutheran in Newburg, ND. Visitation will be held on Friday starting at 4:00 pm with a prayer service at 7:00 pm at the Nero Funeral Home in Bottineau.

Janice was born on February, 17 1926 to Ray S. and Winifred (Fitch) Henderson in rural Sherwood, ND. Janice grew up East of Sherwood and attended the Wheaton Township School through the 8th grade. She then attended high school in Sherwood where she resided with her paternal grandparents, graduating in 1943.

During the teacher shortage of World War II, at 17 years of age, Janice pursued testing qualifying her to become a teacher which led to her teaching all of 8 grades in Starbuck Township.  She then attended the State Teacher's College in Minot for two years before teaching in Sherwood for a year.  Janice married Edwin Schepp of Minot, ND on June 29th, 1947. They farmed in the rural Newburg area for several years when they were blessed with their 6 children; Lynn, Gary, Neil, Gene, Nancy, and Lyle. Edwin took additional jobs while Janice held down the fort tending to the children and the milk cows until 1961, when she resumed her teaching career in Gardena, and then both Kramer and Newburg.

Janice retired in 1979 when she cared for Edwin until he passed away in 1982. Janice then earned her Master's Degree in Learning Disabilities at Minot State University. She worked on and off in the Resource Rooms in Newburg and Kramer for several years before sticking to her retirement.

Janice always had a jar full of cookies in her Newburg house for a grandchild or two to grab a snack, and once they were of age to Golf, or play cards (or play any competitive game), she knew how to make the game interesting with a wager over ice cream. She saw everything as a learning opportunity and she knew how to make it fun with her kindness and persistent optimism. She set an example to help establish Newburg, and anywhere she went, to be a positive and progressive place to live. Janice continued her retirement years keeping up with friends while living in her Newburg apartment, and then at the Oak Manor in Bottineau. As her care needs increased Janice moved to the Haaland Estates basic care facility in Rugby and last April she moved to the Good Samaritan Center in Bottineau where she lived until her passing.

Janice was survived by her children and daughters-in-law; Lynn Schepp, of Newburg, ND, Gary and Joyce Schepp, of Fargo, ND, Neil Schepp, of Lake Metigoshe, ND, Gene and Ruth Schepp, of Gardner, ND, Nancy Schepp, of Bottineau, ND, and Lyle and Jerylyn Schepp, of Maxbass, ND, and Barb Rollie, of Buffalo, MN. She was also survived by her grandchildren; Kevin Schepp, Kristen Schepp, Kyle Schepp, Karson Schepp, Laura Hanson, Eric Schepp, Nichole Wishart, Bryan Schepp, Jessica Orgaard, Kristie Brennan, Jessie Wolfe, Cassie Connell, Cody Schepp, Cierra Cole, and Michael Schepp, many great grandchildren, and some great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, siblings and in-laws, and daughters in law; Martha Schepp, and Kim Schepp.

Arrangements were with Nero Funeral Home in Bottineau.  Friends may sign the online register book t www.nerofuneralhome.net.
