They will be honored with a celebration of both Janice and Terry's lives on June 14, 2024 in Westhope, North Dakota. There will be a 10:00 A.M. mass at St. Andrew's Catholic Church. There will be a luncheon served at the Westhope Country Club after the burial service for all who wish to join their families in "Celebrating the Lives of Janice and Terry".
Janice was born on January 29, 1943 to George and Olivia (Hinds) Thorenson. She was raised in Newburg, North Dakota and graduated high school from Newburg Public School in 1961. Janice attended beautician school at the Josef's School of Hair Design in Fargo, North Dakota. While working as a beautician in Minot, she crossed paths with Terry through common friends. Janice caught the eye of her future husband, who referred to her as "the most beautiful girl" he hoped to be able to meet again someday. It didn't take long for the two of them to reunite and become very fond of one another. Janice fell in love with Terry and dated him for three years before getting married on November 10th of 1965.
Janice grew up helping her Dad on the farm near Newburg, North Dakota. She drove the grain truck and admitted she loved to read Harlequin Romance books while she waited for her Dad's combine to unload the grain. Jan and her family enjoyed summers on Lake Metigoshe where she became quite an accomplished water skier. This was another talent Janice had that sparked the interest of Terry while they were dating. She was not only beautiful and sweet, but she was quite athletic in those years.
Janice and Terry owned & operated the Baumann's Jack & Jill Store in Westhope, North Dakota for 37 years. She worked in the grocery store while attending to her role as housewife and mother to her three children. Creating a very loving, nurturing home to her family was important to Janice. She loved collecting recipe books and trying out new recipes. Cooking and baking were hobbies she enjoyed. There were no strangers at Janice's dining room table. It pleased Janice to plan meals and coffee parties. She loved to entertain her family and many friends.
Janice had a very kind, loving, and gentle character. She was soft spoken in her interactions with people. She always wore a big smile every day. Her positive outlook was a virtue that helped her family in difficult times, such as the loss of her son to ALS in 2001. Faith was the foundation that propelled Janice in all dimensions of her life. She was a wonderful wife, mom, grandma, and great grandma.
The Westhope Cemetery grounds were maintained by Janice and her husband Terry for 22 years after they sold their grocery business in November of 1998. Ensuring a beautiful and well-groomed cemetery during the summer months was important to Janice and Terry. They took pride in the work they did for the community of Westhope.
Janice is survived by her daughter Lisa and son-in-law Kevin Paintner and their three children; her daughter Vicki and son-in-law Jeff Bauman and their three children; and daughter-in-law Norma Baumann with her two children. Janice also had two great grandchildren.
Janice is preceded in death by her husband Terry Baumann; her son Todd Baumann; her parents George and Olivia Thorenson; her two sisters, Jordiene Larson and Jeresa Ford, and her brother John Thorenson.
Arrangements were made with the Nero Funeral Home in Bottineau, North Dakota.
The family requests that memorials be given to the Westhope Cemetery.
