Janet Wagar, age 84 of Bottineau, passed away on Sunday, January 2, 2021 at a Minot hospital. Her funeral will be held on Friday, January 7, 2022 at 11:00 am at the Nero Funeral Home in Bottineau. Visitation will be Thursday from 1:00 pm until 7:00 pm at Nero Funeral Home in Bottineau.
Janet Wagar was born on Aug. 6, 1937, on the John Krogen farm north of Carbury to Alexander and Victoria (Krogen) Gillies.
Janet graduated from high school at Hillcrest Lutheran Academy in Fergus Falls, Minn., and went on to earn her nursing degree at St. Andrew's Nursing School in Bottineau.
After graduation from nursing school, Janet married Paul Wagar at the Turtle Mountain Lutheran Church near Carbury on April 5, 1959. Paul worked as an electrician and Janet as a nurse while raising three children.
As a Registered Nurse, Janet was employed as a nurse for 55 years at medical facilities in Jamestown and Bottineau and being employed locally with St. Andrew's Health Center and the Good Samaritan Society-Bottineau.
Janet conducted nursing and administrative roles at the Good Samaritan Society-Bottineau and played an important role in the education department of the Center where she taught healthcare skills and knowledge to the employees so they could perform their duties with the residents in the most professional matter.
She was also known for her hands-on skills in training CNAs on the floor, granting residents quality care.
After Janet retired, the Good Samaritan Society-Bottineau named their training facility the Janet Wagar Learning Center in honor for her and for her dedication in the field of education.
Within the community, Janet was known for serving God in local churches where she was part of youth ministries, ladies aid and playing the piano and singing during church services.
Her love for God also played an important role in making friends in the local communities where she was known for her kind heart and giving ways, especially to those in need.
In her spare time, Janet enjoyed knitting, musical concerts and being with friends and family, which granted her joy.
Janet passed away peacefully on January 2 at Trinity Healthcare Center surrounded by her family.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Paul, and her father and mother, Alexander and Victoria.
Janet is survived by her children, John (Lori) Wagar of Bemidji, Minn., Mary Wagar of Minot and Scott Wagar of Bottineau; grandchildren, Miriam Wagar of Bemidji and Joshua (Jia) Wagar of Bemidji; sister JoAnn (Peter) Kallas of Chicago; nephews, Tasos, Alexander, George, Peter and Constantine, along with several great nephews and nieces and cousins.
