Obituary

James E. Tweten, 78, Pick City and formally of Fargo, died on Sunday, October 18, 2020 in a Bismarck hospital from surgery complications.

James "Jim" Tweten was born July 22, 1942 in Rugby, ND to Oscar and Helma (Hanson) Tweten. He grew up in Willow City, ND and was baptized and confirmed at the Willow City First Lutheran Church. He graduated from Willow City High School with the class of 1960. He enlisted in the United States Army on December 2, 1960. He served in the infantry and spent time in Berlin during the time when the wall was being built. He received his honorable discharge from active duty on March 12, 1962 and was transferred to the U.S. Army Reserve until his discharge from that military service on December 1, 1966.

Jim was united in marriage to Ina Ladendorf on September 4, 1965 at Augustana Lutheran Church in Minot. From this union a daughter, Alysa, was born. They resided in Fargo where he started his pipefitter career. He was a 55-year member of the Pipefitters Association. In 1999 he retired and moved to Pick City so he could enjoy fishing and hunting every day of the week if he desired. He was a great host and fishing/hunting guide to his many friends and family while living in Pick City. But more than his love for the outdoors was the love for his family, especially his granddaughter Dani.

Jim's surviving family include his daughter, Alysa Hoeppner, Janesville, MN; granddaughter, Dani Hoeppner, Northfield, MN; sister, JoAnne (Robert) Gordon, Willow City, ND; niece, Julie (Mike) Bickel, Minot, ND; nephews, Jeff (Angel) Tweten, Mandan, ND and Bruce (Lisa) Gordon, Cedar Park, TX; and great nieces and nephews.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents and brother, John Tweten.

A graveside service with military honors will be held at the Willow City Cemetery on Saturday, November 7, 2020 at 2 pm. Masks are mandatory.

Sympathy cards may be mailed to JoAnne Gordon at P.O. Box 65, Willow City, ND 58384.
