Obituary

James Parisien, age 70 of of Belcourt, passed away on Wednesday, September 24, 2025 at a Minot hospital.  Mass of the Christian Burial will be held on Monday, October 6, 2025 at 10:00 am at St. Michael's Catholic Church with Father Michael Slovak officiating.  The wake will start at 8:00 am and a rosary will be prayed at 9:00 am also on Monday.  Burial will be at the St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery.  Lunch will be held at the Eagle Heart Cultural Center following the service.  Funeral arrangements were with Nero Funeral Home in Bottineau.  Floral arrangements were with Turtle Mountain Floral in Bottineau.  Our family would like to extend our sincerest thank you to everyone who reached out with love and support to our family during this difficult time.

James was born on March 12, 1955, in Belcourt, ND, to Francis (Mitchif) Parisien and Annabelle (Dussome) Parisien. He was raised in Belcourt and attended both Wahpeton and Flandreau Indian Schools. After graduating in 1971, he worked in the oil field for 15 years.

Later, James pursued higher education at North Dakota State School of Science, earning a Bachelor's degree in Architectural Design and Drafting. He graduated with honors and a perfect GPA of 4.0.

James began his teaching career as an instructor at JTPA for construction. Unfortunately, he had to leave the construction field due to an incident on a job site in St. John, ND.

James was the proud father of six children: Ann Parisien, James Parisien Jr., Amber Mendez, Joshua Pretzer, Joshua Poitra, Thomas Parisien

He was a beloved great-grandfather, grandfather, father, brother, uncle, and friend. He cherished spending time with family and friends and enjoyed fishing, gambling, visiting, playing music, and cooking.

James is survived by sisters; Theresa Marie Brunelle, Sharon Ann Parisien (Belcourt), Viola Chase , Ann Parisien (Dunseith), James Albert Parisien Jr. (Dunseith), Amber Mendez (Minot),  Joshua James Pretzer, (Castle Rock), Joshua John Poitra (Fargo) and numerous nieces, nephews, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren

He was preceded in death By, Francis (Mitchif) Parisien (Father),  Annabelle Dussome Parisien (Mother), Francis Martin Parisien Jr. (Brother), David Albert Parisien (Brother), Roger Vincent Parisien (Brother), Raymond Lawerance Parisien (Brother), Roy Bendick Parisien (Brother),  Thomas James Parisien (Son) and other beloved nephews

James will be greatly missed by his family. God bless his soul, and until we meet again...
