James Edward
Miller
Nov 23, 1942 — Sep 23, 2026
James Edward Miller, age 83 of Newburg, passed away on Wednesday, September 23, 2026 at a Bottineau hospital. His memorial service will be held on Thursday, October 1, 2026 at 2:00 pm at the English Lutheran Church in Maxbass.
James Edward Miller was born November 23, 1942, in Dickinson, ND, to Lloyd and Esther (Moe) Miller. The family moved to Newborg Township, Bottineau County in 1943, where he was raised. He graduated from Newburg High School in 1960. At the age of 17, Jim enlisted in the United States Navy and proudly served as a Navy Corpsman until his honorable discharge on November 22, 1963. That date would forever be burned in his memory, as it was the day President John F. Kennedy was assassinated.
In 1965, Jim married Carolyn (Thompson) Miller. Together, they had two children, Warren and Vanessa. He was a lifelong farmer and rancher, raising his family on the family farm and dedicating his life to the land and livestock. In his early years, he also operated a snowmobile repair service. He was committed to his community and served on numerous boards over the years, including the elevator board, school board, and various church boards.
Jim enjoyed spending time with his family and was an avid motorcyclist. He and Carolyn spent many years riding across the country with friends. He was also a longtime fan of the Blue Angels and attended several air shows over the years to watch them perform.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 61 years, Carolyn; children, son Warren (Kristi) Miller, daughter Vanessa Miller; his grandchildren, Ashley (Taylor) Lesmann, Ethan (Stephanie) Miller; and his great-grandchildren, Tucker and Tayte Lesmann, and many nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be given to the English Lutheran church, Holden Cemetery or a cemetery of your choosing.
