Ida Syvertson, age 99, passed away on Saturday, December 30, 2023 at a Bottineau nursing home.  Her funeral will be held on Saturday, January 6, 2023 at 10:00 am at the Willow Creek Lutheran Church in Overly.  Visitation will be Friday, January 5, 2023 starting at 1:00 pm with a prayer service at 7:00 pm at the Nero Funeral Home in Bottineau.  Burial will be at the Willow Creek Cemetery near Overly.  In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial be given to the Willow Creek Cemetery Association.  Lunch will be held at the Willow City Community Hall following the burial.

Ida Solga (Holseth) Syvertson was born December 10, 1924, in St. Andrew's Hospital, Bottineau.  She was the daughter of Mikal and Marit (Haugen) Holseth.  Ida was born and spent time on a farm near Souris. After her father passed away, Ida and her mother moved to Bottineau, where she graduated from Bottineau High School and also attended the North Dakota School of Forestry in Bottineau for two years.  She was employed by a local insurance agent until her marriage.

She was united in marriage to Donald Syvertson on June 1, 1952 at First Lutheran Church in Bottineau.  They lived on the Syvertson Farm near Overly, ND until moving to Bottineau in their retirement years.  Don and Ida also lived at Haaland Estates in Rugby and later, Ida was a resident of the Good Samaritan Nursing Home in Bottineau.  Don and Ida were married for 62 years and raised five sons.

Ida was a long-time member of Willow Creek Lutheran Church in Overly.  She was active in the ELCA Women's group and was a member of the Overly Homemakers.  She was proud of her Norwegian heritage and traveled to Norway several times throughout the years.  She loved to create items to share with her family and family members and friends have quilts, table runners, and rose malled boxes that Ida painted.  Her favorite television show was "Wheel of Fortune" and she could almost always guess the word puzzle before the television guest!   Family members did not want to play dominos with her as she always won!   In her later years, Bingo kept her occupied and she always shared her winnings with family:  quarters, candy or other prizes.

She is survived by her sons: Tim (Deb) of Bottineau; David (Sue) of The Villages in Florida; Richard (Pam) of Overly; and John who resides in Maplewood, Mn. Ida was also blessed (after raising five sons) with eight granddaughters and one grandson. She finally got to purchase dresses instead of sturdy blue jeans and t-shirts.  She is also the proud great grandmother of fourteen great grandchildren, which have brought her much joy.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and eldest son, Michael.
