Helen Sandy, age 83 of Westhope, died Sunday, August 9, 2020 at a Bismarck hospital.  A private funeral will be held.  Visitation will be on Thursday, August 13, 2020 from 4:00 pm until 6:00 pm at the St. Andrew's Catholic Church in Westhope.  Burial will be at the Westhope Cemetery.

Helen Sandy, a daughter of Willis and Emily (Gervais) McGuire, was born on April 12, 1937 at Carpio, ND.  She grew up in Newburg and graduated from Newburg High School in 1955.  On June 25, 1955, she married John (Jack) Sandy at the St. Andrew's Catholic Church in Westhope.  They lived in Tioga until moving to Newburg in 1959.  In 1968, they moved to a farm north of Westhope.  Through the years, Helen worked numerous jobs in Westhope.  Jack passed away on January 8, 2016.  Helen continued to make her home on the farm near Westhope.

She was a member of St. Andrew's Catholic church in Westhope where she was active with the religious education program, CYO and the Altar Society.  She enjoyed going to her children's and grand children's activities, quilting, genealogy, and hosting bonfires in her backyard.   Her competitive nature was often on display while playing cards and other various games amongst friends and family.

She is survived by children, Brad (Sally) Sandy of Bismarck, Barb (Jim) Gall of Royersford, PA, Bruce Sandy of Chattaroy, WA, LaDonna (Larry) Ballantyne of Westhope, Larry (Kim) Sandy of Velva, Jon (Tristen) Sandy of Minot, Patty (Darin) Baumgartner of Bismarck and Jennifer (Wayne) Harvison of Bismarck;  18 grandchildren;  8 great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Ann Maria and 3 brothers and 2 sisters.
