Obituary

Funeral services for Helen Kippen, age 83 of Omemee  were held on Monday, July 15, 2019 at 11:00 am at the United Parish in Bottineau.  Officiating at the service was Pastor Deb Burger.  Sharon Marquardt was the pianist and special music was provided by Leo Jostad.  Casket bearers were all of Helen's grandsons.  Burial was at the  Omemee Cemetery.

Helen Elizabeth Kippen, a daughter of Allistar and Alice (Welin) Davidson, was born on September 9, 1935 in Bottineau.  She attended school in Omemee until the school closed.  She then graduated from Bottineau High School in 1953.  Helen continued her education at Jamestown College where she attained her teaching certificate.  She taught school in Tuttle, ND, Belcourt Day School and Harvey, ND until 1961.  On December 16, 1961, she married Charles Kippen at the Omemee Presbyterian Church.  They made their home on the Kippen Homestead where they raised four Children.

Helen was active in the Omemee Homemakers for years.  She was always involved in the church, first in Omemee and then the United Parish in Bottineau.  She was a member of the Presbyterian women and a leader in other areas.  She taught Sunday school and Bible school for years and also played piano at the church.  She always enjoyed music and played for her own entertainment.  She enjoyed her life on the farm and with her family.  She always had a large garden and loved spending time in it and caring for all her beautiful flowers.  She was a talented seamstress and tried to pass that on to her daughters through numerous 4-H projects.  She was a quilter and has shared them with her family and friends over the years.  She enjoyed spending time with her friends at the church quilting together.  Helen enjoyed traveling.  She and Charles went many places with their camper.  They made lots of friends all over North Dakota and nearby Canada.  They took in horse races and small town celebrations always making new friends and memories.  Helen loved her family, friends and faith.

Helen passed away on Wednesday, July 10, 2019 at a Minot hospital.

She is survived by her husband of 57 years, Charles; children, Scott (Pat) Kippen of Bottineau, Carmen (Greg) Bendixson of Zahl, ND, Roberta (Scott) Abernathey of Minot and Heather Kippen of Crosby; grandchildren, Jordan (Taylor) Kippen, Levi (Kelsey) Kippen, Ethan Kippen, of Bottineau, Derek (Brandie) Bendixson, Ryan (Danielle) Bendixson, Kent Bendixson of Zahl, ND and Lathan Abernathey of Minot; great-grandchildren, Owan Kippen and Meriena Bendixson; siblings, Donna Brandon of Powell, WY, Peggy (Lloyd) Nelson of Bottineau and Morris (Louise) Davidson of Grand Forks; sister-in-law, Joy Sanders of Santa Clara, CA and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her in-laws, Angus and Ellen Kippen and granddaughter, Sloan Abernathey.

Arrangements were with Nero Funeral Home in Bottineau.
